It’s in chinas interests for the war to continue - a weakened Russia is a good Russia for China especially as it eyes its territory Russia took from it in the North east.

The stench will never leave him. He’s now a political zombie.

And they do they just eat and eat the numbers until they go bust?
December 3, 2025 at 3:18 PM
I’m sorry but when your house is in imminent danger of being burnt to the ground there won’t be any place to count the cash you might have saved by negotiating over the price of a sprinkler system.

Tell me how much of a dent in the €361 billion held by Euroclear have these 100s of court cases made?
December 3, 2025 at 2:57 PM
So the “threat” of a long drawn out arbitration process w/questionable possibility of success/chance of being enforced in your mind is more immediate a threat than further Russian aggression? I’m sure the Baltic states will draw great comfort form that speculation & thank Belgium for their fortitude
December 3, 2025 at 2:53 PM
I hope they bury him under the ballroom floor when he dies.
December 3, 2025 at 2:25 PM
Immediate? Could you hang a time frame on that? How’s it compare to time frame the Baltics have on Russian aggression given they held a a mass evacuation exercise in Oct?

+ Didn’t the article point to poor enforcement measures open to plaintiffs

For Europe Tanks not arbitration are the threat
December 3, 2025 at 2:22 PM
Not sure the Hungarian Gov would agree w/that point of view. Russia is closer to them than Belgium geographically & memories of 1956 in living memory. I’m no supporter. I mention it to illustrate the double standard Belgium expects. The threat from Russia is real but yeah whine about money why not.
December 3, 2025 at 2:08 PM
I’m still waiting for your sources to back up your 100 court cases claim? …. I won’t hold my breath.
December 3, 2025 at 1:46 PM
Would you say the same about Orban say his 12 demands of the EU or is Belgium a special case?
December 3, 2025 at 1:43 PM
I agree. This is what Putin relies on. Which is at the heart of my frustration with the antics of Belgiums government. Whining about getting poorer while all the time an asteroid is on its way.
December 3, 2025 at 1:38 PM
If it ever got that far I’ve no doubt a solution for Belgium would be found within the European power structure. I’m also sure Belgiums political class also know this. My spine comment reflects the optics as viewed from Russia. Belgiums whining reinforces Putin “weak Europe” view & emboldens him
December 3, 2025 at 1:33 PM
It really is time to stop looking at the US as a reliable ally. It isn’t. European security cannot be held hostage by the whims of a bunch of swing voters in Pennsylvania. Europe needs its own security arrangements and to provide its own security guarantees.

The reality is Hegseth and Trump couldn’t care less.
December 3, 2025 at 1:19 PM
Excellent article. Thank you. The enforcement aspect (or lack of in reality) is (along with reform) key.The irony is also acute; Russia, a lawless pariah who cares nothing for treaties eyeing using same to aid its destruction of a sovereign nation it broke treaties to invade. Belgium needs a spine.

Farage doesn’t need a pact given the number of Tories who’ve already defected.
December 3, 2025 at 11:56 AM
Provide me with a source for the specific claim you’ve just made. And then tell me which court Russia is going to go to? And which judge would ever rule for Russia using frozen Russian assets to benefit Ukraine held by Euroclear?
December 3, 2025 at 11:36 AM
Belgium owns the risk just as it owned the rewards and benefited from them while it could. And now when it’s time to pay the piper it wants handouts while Ukrainians die to give them time to whine about how poor they might get. As I said shame on them.
December 3, 2025 at 11:07 AM
Belgium is crying Wolf and looking for handouts while Ukraines bravery and the the blood of its heros keep it safe. Shame.
December 3, 2025 at 10:54 AM
Other European countries are making unilateral sacrifices of their own. Why does Belgium get a pass?
December 3, 2025 at 10:44 AM
Helping Ukraine defeat an enemy that will otherwise be ultimately be existential threat to Belgium on the one hand, versus “possibly” eating smaller portions of French fries for a while on the other. All European countries are making unilateral sacrifices. Why should Belgium get a pass?
