I've been wondering if there's a strategy in EU circles to bow to DJT to the extent and as long as necessary to buy time until we have reduced our interdependence with the US enough to afford breaking ties.

I'm probably giving in to the temptation of overstating my confidence. Of course I don't know what they're thinking.
But given that they're zero sum thinkers, it seems plausible that they don't see the value of the common good, believing that to gain, the few must take from the many.

Probably not quite like that. They'll take some upgrades from 1920, but yes, I think a guy like DJT will accept that his children will have the same risk of cancer as him as long as they'll be rich and powerful.

Or they will just let the deadline come and go. Someone will sue. The taxpayer will pay for lawyers and courts and penalties, but ultimately time will pass and nothing will happen because laws and court orders mean nothing if those whose job it is to enforce them have no respect for them.

I just read about US plans to drag Hungary and other right-aligned countries out of the EU. Orban won't ever pass on EU money, so this won't happen, but wouldn't that be nice?
