That seemingly frail Oma next to you at Rewe won’t hesitate to shove you out of her way. The opening of a new Kasse is like some sort of trigger, akin to a sleeper agent being activated.

Germans are the first to call the police to complain or snitch, but also the first to look into their neighbors’ windows. They like to spy but not be spied on 😒

I think you’ve made it in Germany when the bakery and the local Döner place know you.

Find your own spot! 😉

Moved to Nürnberg from the US for my masters degree in 2010, met a German girl and fell in love. We got married, moved to Vienna, and relocated back to Nürnberg a few years ago.

My favorite holiday and probably the thing I miss most about the US. But I’ve brought the tradition over to Germany and gotten my wife (🇩🇪) on board. Happy Thanksgiving! 🦃

Oh, without question. If I had to pick one of the other, I’d choose worker’s rights 100% of the time. As an American, the last things I want here in Germany are reduced worker’s rights and the toxic hustle and grind culture.

I guess I should have said “a few new additions”. 🤷🏻‍♂️

I think there’s a nice middle ground where Germany could be a bit more accommodating and not completely frightened of risk and technology, but also have strong worker support and regulations that benefit the country and workers.
