There are fewer Black men enrolled at HBCUs than in the mid-70s. Interventions in K-12 education in Black communities, increasing the representation of Black male teachers, and expanding HBCU funding could all help increase Black male enrollment.

Children with fathers engaged in “activation parenting” tend to have better self-regulation and fewer emotional difficulties. Fathers also challenge their children via language—asking more “wh-” questions—stimulating language development.

Dads matter. As mothers have entered the labor force in greater numbers, fathers have reduced the amount of time they spend in paid work, and increased the time they spend completing household activities and caring for their children.
