Doing DVPit for my adult fantasy, but realized I should prob also mention that I do have a couple of middle grade books out!

In THE SPINDLE OF FATE, 12-year-old Evie goes to the terrifying Chinese underworld to save her mom. In THE THREAD OF DESTINY, she’s back from Hell and wants payback
Book cover for THE SPINDLE OF FATE, showing a young Asian girl in golden lighting holding a staff with metal rings, standing in front of a large blue Chinese pagoda. There are also red spider lily flowers along the bottom. The “N” in “SPINDLE” has a red thread tied around the middle. Book cover for THE THREAD OF DESTINY (the “R” in “THREAD” has red string around it), showing a scowling Asian girl with a red knotted Chinese pendant and holding a spindle. Behind her is a boy in side profile holding a staff with metal rings. The background is dark red with gold flames and a pair of fiery golden eyes.

#DVParty day 6: my WIP is a Chinese mythology inspired middle grade like my Weavers of Legacy and Fate duology (out now!), though it’s a different genre. I just finished the first draft but here are some out of context inspo pics
Golden statue of the goddess Guan Yin with multiple arms and heads Credence Clearwater Revival’s disastrous final album MARDI GRAS. The album art is brown and shows a girl in a dress holding up a tambourine with the title, while the band name is in a circle around her. Screenshot from the 1960s Batman show with Adam West, showing Batman standing in front of the ocean and holding a large black bomb with the subtitles: “Some days you just can’t get rid of a bomb.” A group of multiracial young people all facing left and holding up bottles of Coke. “I’d like to buy the world a Coke” is in wavy font against a psychedelic floral sky, the white Coca-Cola logo in the bottom right corner.

#DVParty day 4: prob stretching the definition of a meme here but here’s my fantasy WIP as Letterboxd four favorites

#DVParty day 3: opening lines
Quote graphic with the text: “There was an old saying in the bog that you don’t know what kind of person someone is until the worst misfortune that could befall them has happened. Outsiders were often startled
by bogborns’ unusual, almost ominous blessing for births, weddings, journeys, and farewells: May you never know yourself.”

This is a beautiful board and I love the title!

#DVParty day 2: MC

Ling is a dreamer, a schemer, and convinced she’s destined for greatness (bc a fortune teller said so), but for now she’s stuck on her no-nonsense mother’s mushroom farm. She’s prickly, imaginative, conniving, superstitious, very pretty and very smug about it

Art by me!
Sketch of a girl with dark hair, wearing a feathered cloak and a large sun pendant

It’s from a French movie, Vagabond! The top middle photo is also from a movie, House of Flying Daggers

Hi #DVParty! Here’s a moodboard for my adult fantasy, which features a poisonous bog, fantasy fungi, wandering warriors, and mother-daughter POVs

The center row includes character art I’ve commissioned from joills on Insta (left) and Jaki King (right)
3 x 3 grid. Top row: pink mushrooms on a mossy log; a woman in a green dress and bamboo hat walking in an autumn forest, her back to the camera; wine bottle with snakes inside. Center row: sketch of a dark haired woman holding a basket of mushrooms and a scythe; a dark green center square reading THOSE WHO WANDER in neon green font; color art of a scarred man holding a sword. Bottom row: photo of a bog with grass and murky water; a young white woman in a dark green shirt lying on her side, with white subtitles reading "You chose total freedom but got total loneliness"; a compass on a light brown background.

I think the name could convey that this is a fantasy and not about real-world colonization, which I guessed but was not sure of until I read the hashtag bc the character’s name could go either way
aimeelimwrites.bsky.social
This sounds hilarious! Minor nitpick but I think there’s probably a funnier phrase than “the cult women” since you’ve already said “it’s a cult”, maybe something ironic? Otherwise I love this!
aimeelimwrites.bsky.social
I think I would restructure this to establish the conflict/stakes for the characters (ie “An anonymous photographer and a homeschooler _____”) instead of “this is a story about ____”, which I think takes up a lot of words. This sounds really intriguing though! Good luck!
aimeelimwrites.bsky.social
Great comps! I think the placement of the “discovering” clause is a little awkward—it feels like all these things happen simultaneously which doesn’t seem right (they’ve been kidnapped *and* they need to go on a quest?) Good luck!
aimeelimwrites.bsky.social
This is really clever! I think some of the nouns feel like abstract concepts (the rebellion is against “colonization”, “his government”). If you have, like, an empire with a fantasy name I think I’d put that here to establish the setting. But this definitely hooked me, good luck!
aimeelimwrites.bsky.social
This sounds wonderful, I think if you can find one YA comp that’d be great (off the top of my head Starfish and All the Fighting Parts deal with abuse but in different forms). Minor detail but I think “teen” is unnecessary bc of “senior year” and “YA”. Good luck!!
aimeelimwrites.bsky.social
I wonder if you can have a more interesting noun than “woman”, does she have an evocative job? Also, why is she stuck in her wife’s shadow? Who is her wife and what makes her special? But this sounds great, the transition from mundane relatable angst to cosmic world-saving stakes is really fun!
