Living life off-grid with my dog and various wild critters. #permaculture #metacrisis #collapse
I drove through a massive wall of pea-sized hail today. It was whiteout conditions with a few inches of hail accumulation. I was on a stretch of highway with no exit close by and steep slopes. So, not safe to pull over when you can't see where the road is. It was a bit stressful.

I am not that close to any of the fires in NM. On a sunny day, our skies are this magnificent blue free from that city haze. Right now, it looks more like Dallas or Albuquerque. There's this icky haze along the horizon. Winds are currently out of the WNW.

I keep fantasizing about snow. Sometimes, I can look at snow pictures and feel better.

Stare at this and imagine rolling around in it.

Update from a friend in Kerrville

The drought is making gardening a bit of a challenge. Hungry and thirsty critters keep eating stuff no matter what I do. My cucumbers were about to start climbing, but something got most of them. My Peas were producing, gone overnight. There is one vine left that is recovering. 🌱🧵

It's so easy to blame voters and the RNC, but the Democratic Party's corruption, pro-genocide/anti-Muslim, and overall weakness is equally to blame...maybe more.

This is what I see in my #YouTube feed now. All of my phone, app, and #Google settings are English language and my location is New Mexico. Some of these look like soft porn. I did not do screenshots of the ones that look like child porn. You can see my search box has "Nebraska Farm" (ers). 🧵

You know what is irking me this morning? The lack of concern for the huge fire in Arizona on Navajo lands. The Navajo firefighters are some of the best and never hesitate to help with fires all over. Actually, the Navajo are some of the most gracious and generous people I have encountered.

Meanwhile, in Arizona on Navajo lands...

We've been having several fires, but the media only covers white people areas.

However, the Navajo always show up to help with fires elsewhere.

🌱 Yay! The prickly pear is starting to bud. I have been cultivating several patches near my garden that I created by transplanting ones in my driveway and building area. They are all so happy. I hope to have enough fruit to make some jam this year.

A bit. Monsoon season is fabulous. This was only about 1/3". More is coming tonight. Everything will be green in a week. Then the explosion of color happens. The four o'clocks just started emerging.

I was planning on watering tonight.

Water!!! This is headed to my garden swale.

Could be a bot...definitely using Bsky to send unwanted DMs for marketing crap telling me how she can help me build up my followers. Not interested in collecting humans like baseball cards.

This is starting to look really groovy. I will be starting on the raised bed under the window for leafy greens next. The purple posts are for a gate.

Monsoon season can't start fast enough. Several weather predictions state that we are getting monsoon weather next week. I sure hope so. My phone has been blowing up all afternoon with new wildfire notifications.

During the winter, the passive solar heat from this window allows me to turn my heater off shortly after the sun comes up. During the summer months, I have to cover it up with foil to keep my cabin cool. I am working on building a trellis for morning glories to shade it. I had to pause for planting.

My sage is blooming. My potatoes are so happy. I also found a baby pinion by my garden stepping stones.

The thermometer shows 80. Here's the ground temps. No wonder my dog has no desire to go outside. Even the dirt is hot.
