a fun find for Switch Bakery's "no to-go" policy in cups, these are from a restaurant on the Santa Cruz wharf on the 60s and are ceramic cocktail tumblers that are carved to had a faux-wood finish with fish embossed.

Clearing out some cobwebs on the trail this morning on Jack’s Peak in Monterey. I haven’t run on technical terrain like this for a couple of years but it was amazing to get above the fog. My new gravel shoes from Craft performed admirably #Crohns #BeginAgain #Coros #Xplor2

I ran my first event since my marathon a year and a half ago — two abdominal surgeries since then — but I was out pacing the 2:50 group today at the Monterey Bay Half Marathon. Couldn’t ask for a more beautiful run than this one.

Goan Lamb Curry from Goat in the Machine

- Add coconut oil with InstantPot set to high pressure for 20 minutes. Brown lamb pieces, then add the onion, garlic paste and cook down for 1 min. Add in spice blend and mix around then add coconut milk. Place the lid and when it’s finished cooking, depressurize naturally. Go to finish step

2 lbs lamb shoulder cut into 2” pieces
3 tbsp coconut oil
1 can coconut milk (no gums)

Paste
- Add to a food processor and pulse to make a paste
Juice of one lime
2 onions – finely chopped
8 cloves of garlic
1 inch fresh ginger root, chopped
2 tsp salt

Spice Blend
- Toast in a hot cast iron or heavy pan on medium heat until fragrant
1 tsp ground black pepper
2 tsp Kashmiri chilli powder
2 green cardamom pods, smashed slightly with edge of knife
2 whole cloves
3 dried red chillies
1 cinnamon stick
1 tbsp coriander seeds
2 bay leaves

- Add turmeric, tamarind, and green chilies at the end. Salt to taste and top with chilies, cilantro, and crispy shallots
Salt, to taste
½ tsp ground turmeric
1ish tsp tamarind paste (sour to taste)
Fresh cilantro, chopped
Fresh green chilies, seeded and sliced
2-3 Shallots, sliced thin + fried in coconut oil

He pulled his cowboy hat off, ran his fingers through his hair before returning it to its perch, “We’ve got hundreds of animals. Mostly roaming free, but we rotate them into other parts of the farm where we’re growing vegetables so the ground gets the benefit of the large animals churning it up.”

I decided just to go for it, “I’ve been working on a project that involves goats, well mostly their heads, but it seems a lot easier to just get a goat than a goat head.”

“Goat heads?” That got his attention, “What are you doing with just the head?”

Perplexity did a good job providing some background and summarizing what we’re up to in Santa Cruz and a follow-up query mixed the context with what’s on our site. Switch Bakery & Bistro sounds totally awesome, I can’t wait to open it up!

A query on Perplexity asking about the menu for the new Switch Bakery gave some great context and approach but not totally accurate on the items

In the my-world-is-a-cafe-opening update, yesterday, I painted over the lsd vision of Oz and the yellow brick road. No need to know the words to "Tom Sawyer" or be a Captain Beefheart fan to have a seat in our bistro.
