I had a pixel 5, and I hated the off center punch out.
Centered screen cutouts only!

Exhibit X, your honor, AI is still garbage.

But for me slow charging doesn't matter so much because I have enough convenient wireless chargers that I can just top up whenever I need to. In my car, several places in my house, etc.

A better solution would be batteries that truly last all day. Give me a full day of navigating, heavy Bluetooth/data usage, streaming media, all at high brightness, and charging becomes much less of a concern.

Blocks sideloading, has a bunch of other downsides. Proprietary lock in. Maybe if you're running for office, but otherwise, not needed.

This already exists for the pixel watch

"we know members and their staffers regularly use Whatsapp"

Yeah, I think that's part of the problem. @signal.org doesn't have a clue. Use signal. Be like signal.

E/os is a joke, it's just LineageOS with worse security.

If you want privacy and want to degoogle, just use @lineageos.org without gapps

For people whose parents refuse to buy an iPhone?? Stated as if anyone who doesn't have an iPhone is old and out of touch, sure.
Maybe it should say "for people whose parents refuse to buy them and iPhone" cuz that's a childish take on Android.

Dammit. I want blue on the pro, and I hate anything that's off-white instead of actually bright white.

Does sandboxed Google play work on other ROMs?
May 25, 2025 at 7:36 PM
If someone's not on signal, Google messages doesn't have a way to quickly crop a photo before sending, which is really annoying. This quick edit tool is a great substitute.
May 20, 2025 at 2:41 PM
>But since when was editing pictures in Google Photos a difficult process?

It's not, but it saves another copy. This quick edit tool is a great substitute for something like signal's photo editor. I don't want to save a copy of a photo, I just want to crop it close to show someone something.

Since Android phones are encrypted, factory resetting them is almost always sufficient since even if files can be retrieved from disk, they'll just be encrypted nonsense. (Unless you can get the previous screen lock, but even then it'll be quite a pain to use it.)

No froggy, no deal. Google's basic weather app that's part of search is better and works on all Android devices.

How does that even work without satellite connectivity? He mustn't have been so far from shore that an LTE signal couldn't reach him. Lucky there were cell towers by shore I guess...

Wait, if Google publishes the monthly apex updates, why aren't they included in that month's update? I just updated my pixel, but I had to go back and separately install the Google Play update.
April 10, 2025 at 9:51 PM
Is this the same stock build that pixels get or is it a beta of OnePlus' skin?
April 9, 2025 at 12:32 PM
...distribute the apex updates monthly? I thought you had to wait for the next qpr release at least before distributing changes since the last one?

Since apex updates are distributed through Google play, how do devices w/o gms do it? Just merge the changes into the normal system updates?

Custom ROM is a bit of a misnomer, but it's an endearment used to refer to aftermarket Android distros. I think you'll be hard pressed to get people, especially those who have been tinkering for a while, to stop calling android OSes that.

So does Google publish new AOSP every month? Does Graphene..
April 6, 2025 at 5:22 AM
Even worse for custom ROMs, since they can't get these updates until the next platform release. @grapheneos.org can you say more about this?

Needing access to the old phone to transfer an esim is ridiculous... Google Fi does it the right way. Just log in to your Google account and you can activate the esim.

A Bluetooth smart meat thermometer?? Nah...

I think you labeled the screenshots backwards in the article. The old version has the material you icon according to your pictures.
