เขาพูด และรับถุงขนมมาด้วยรอยยิ้มเล็ก ๆ บนใบหน้า

"ไม่หรอกน่า"

ได้แต่ส่ายหน้าให้กับคำหยอกเล่นนั้น ก่อนจะยกมือขึ้นโบก

"ฉันไปก่อนล่ะ คูเปอร์ หวังว่าครั้งต่อไป เครื่องปั่นสลัชชี่จะใจดีกับเธอกว่านี้นะ"

"เอเจ ธอร์น" เขาว่าพลางยักไหล่ "ก็อยากจับมืออยู่หรอก แต่มือฉันเหนียวน่ะ"

แม้คำพูดจาจะทื่อไปบ้าง เจตนาที่มีก็แค่ไม่ต้องการให้ผู้หญิงมือเปื้อนเพราะตัวเองเพียงเท่านั้น

"ฉันอยากกินมันฝรั่งทอดรสสาหร่าย ขอเป็นอันนั้นนะ"

"เล็กน้อยน่า" เขาว่าพลางรับผ้าผืนนั้นมา เช็ดไปตามรอยของน้ำหวานบนมือสองข้าง "ขอบคุณสำหรับผ้า ไว้ฉันจะเอาไปซักแล้วเอามาคืนทีหลัง"

พูดแล้ว เจ้าตัวก็หันไปหาแม่คนดวงดี(?)อีกหน

"เพิ่งเคยเจอเรื่องงี้รึเปล่าเธอน่ะ เมื่อกี้ทำหน้าเหลอหลาเชียว"

วันนี้เป็นวันสบาย ๆ ของเอเจ

เขาเดินไปซื้อของ ตั้งใจว่าจะหยิบขนมสองสามชิ้นให้ตัวเองแล้วตรงกลับบ้านไปตีพุงนอนดูหนัง แต่ดูเหมือนว่ามันจะไม่ใช่วันสบาย ๆ ของคนรอบตัวเขาเท่าไหร่...

"Damn, girl."

พ่อคนผมสีอ่อนพยายามไม่หัวเราะ เขาเดินไปช่วยดึงแก้วใบนั้นออกให้แล้วเอาแก้วใบใหม่ไปรองโดยไม่ใส่ใจว่ามือจะเปื้อน

"ไปตามพนักงานมาเร็ว"

Ajax grabbed the outstretched hand and got up with her help. "Thanks."

"'s alright. At least you didn't ditch me here," he smiled again, scratching the back of his head, ruffling his already messy hair. "It'd be very embarrassing for me, actually. I'd look like a mime DJ the rest of the walk home."

"Nah... It's just me being, you know," he lightly shrugged at himself. A chuckle escaped him. "Clumsy."

Seeing the biker's concern, he decided not to make a joke for now.

Only when he heard her voice, he blinked. Once. Twice.

"Huh?"

"Oh. No, no. It's okay. I'm fine," he smiled, hoping that it wouldn't come out as a pained wince. "Are you okay?"

As luck would have it, the motorcycle narrowly swerved past him. He could almost feel the heat of the engine grazing his skin. Almost.

"-ow."

For one heart-stopping moment, the world blurred. The boy didn't register that the biker had parked her vehicle and run over to him.

Light flashed at the corner of his eyes, a screeching sound followed.

Ajax snapped his head back to the road. One moment he was about to cross to the other side, the next he was momentarily blinded by the headlight.

"Gah-"

He tried to back away, then he stumbled and fell on his backside.
