Please somehow find a way to keep projects like Andor going in Star Wars

So pretty much Red Sox fans are going to have to pray that an OF, preferably Rafaela, sustains a minor hamstring injury and then BOS promotes Anthony and they come to their senses and realize that Rafaela is not a MLB player.
April 19, 2025 at 5:02 AM
There are probably MULTIPLE AAA outfielders that *aren’t* the top prospect in all of baseball that would be a significant improvement. Like, what are we even talking about? 1.2 fWAR in 197 career games!
April 19, 2025 at 5:01 AM
It’s legitimately insane to suggest Rafaela is even *close* to an average player. The greatest defensive player of all time wouldn’t even have value to a team if he hit as bad as Rafaela. Which is so confusing because even advanced metrics suggests this.

It’s not a club option. It’s a player option. If he opts out, only way to keep him is offer a suitable extension
April 19, 2025 at 4:50 AM
Nowhere to put him? Start him instead of Rafaela. Not a difficult decision whatsoever.
April 18, 2025 at 6:39 AM
It’s not like having a pitching prospect start in the bullpen at the MLB level just for them to move back to the starting rotation in some abnormal thing that isn’t done. Figure in today’s league when starters aren’t going long anyway that team will be more likely to do this
April 16, 2025 at 3:44 AM
Not a prediction, just raising the possibility that the Red Sox aren’t actually sold *yet* that 2B is the best position for him. Because you’re right, I feel like otherwise they’d put Hamilton in the OF instead of Campbell if it was *only* about getting Hamilton at bats.
April 15, 2025 at 7:08 AM
Does it not make you wonder if BOS isn’t convinced that 2B is his permanent position? I don’t think it’s beyond all possibilities that the position he does stay long term is the OF, and one of their other middle INF prospects ends up manning 2B long term.
April 15, 2025 at 7:06 AM
Possibly. You could be right, thing is these were just rumors and reports that may or may not be true. But I do remember what you’re talking about.

Overall guaranteed money means more to them than AAV. They just care that they owe $120 million versus $171 million
April 12, 2025 at 6:18 PM
I’m not saying it was a bargain at all, I actually said earlier I don’t even think ownership wanted to even do it and felt more or less pressured to. I’m just saying it was a worse one than Detroit’s, meaning they still refused to outbid anyone
April 12, 2025 at 6:17 PM
$51 million guaranteed dollars is $51 million guaranteed dollars. Ownership feels a lot better guaranteeing only $120 million rather than $171 million, I can promise you that.
April 12, 2025 at 6:07 PM
I’m implying that ownership reversed course very late with those decisions and that at the time the other big FA were available, ownership wasn’t willing to open their wallet. I’m saying I think their ownership changed their attitude after the majority of the offseason wasn’t going very well
April 12, 2025 at 6:06 PM
Basically I’m calling the Bregman contract a panic signing, even though I agree with it. I don’t think ownership wanted to give him that contract at all. But also, Bregman also took less money to be in BOS too. He turned down more guaranteed money from Detroit.
April 12, 2025 at 6:03 PM
It’s not really just that they signed him late, I’m saying I got the feeling they gave him that money only because spring training was about to start at their offseason was about to end with zero big contracts. Which would’ve been the second consecutive offseason ownership failed their promises
April 12, 2025 at 6:01 PM
Stats even wondered about a potential trade deadline deal. And again, this is all super late. They let everyone else sign elsewhere, including Fried as you mentioned (still let him go to NYY). They only gave Bregman that money after they were about to lose him, after they lost every single big FA
April 12, 2025 at 5:59 PM
Like I said, the thing is nearly none of those things happened. Bregman was extremely late and last second (He thought he was going to DET), the Crochet extension literally went past the “deadline,” everyone including Crochet and Breslow wondered if it wouldn’t get done…
April 12, 2025 at 5:57 PM
They’ve now given out a couple extensions. But they watched many big free agents, including pitchers sign with other teams. Their big SP addition was a trade, and it was never certain that they’d extend him. Still feels like BOS is reluctant to spend. Might be why Buehler was signed to be their #2
April 12, 2025 at 5:52 PM
Maybe. Still not sure BOS’s ownership was being entirely truthful about financial constraints and wonder that has something to do with it. I mean, the Red Sox went nearly until Spring Training to give *anyone* a decent contract and that was Bregman. The Red Sox held their purse all offseason
April 12, 2025 at 5:51 PM
We’ll see if Breslow’s picked the right guys. Results just take some time to appear. But I don’t know, regarding maximizing their players, I guess I just had zero faith in any of the guys Andrew Bailey inherited in the first place.
April 12, 2025 at 5:47 PM
Even at Houck’s best he never seemed to me like a true ace, he always felt like an over performing #3 starter. These guys are counted on for greater roles right now. BOS still seems one very good to elite SP away. But Bailey getting the best out of P and Breslow identifying P talent I’ve no concerns
April 12, 2025 at 5:45 PM
The organization had like less than zero pitching. The main concern this year though is frankly they didn’t do enough in the offseason. Buehler should never have been counted on as more than a high-upside end of rotation starter.
April 12, 2025 at 5:42 PM
The only player I’m really hoping to see more out of is Bello. Maybe that’s this year. The problem is more that the Red Sox pitching was so unbelievably bad that it was always going to take multiple years to fix. Even last year was a shock, given how far they had come.
April 12, 2025 at 5:41 PM
He knows his shit and more importantly he’s constantly focused on being a step ahead of the rest of the league. As for Breslow, there is something to be said about his time in Chicago too. These are reputably smart people. Give them time.
