Also, please, please vet any fundraisers you see for #HurricaneHelene survivors. There are already scammers out in full force & people are desperately in need. Make sure your money goes where mean for it to & be specific when you make donations to #RedCross or they can put it in general funds.

I didn't plan to make my first thread on this site about the devastation in Southern Appalachia & the need for appropriate media coverage and #FEMA funding--this should be links to publications, book recs & vibing--but I don't really use social media otherwise so this is my only way to speak out.

I'm watching #NBCNightlyNews right now and they have said jack about #BlackMountain. Almost everything was about #Asheville (which, yes, does need to be covered, too--I've got a close friend there). It feels like they don't know anything about #WNC and haven't even asked the right questions.

However bad WNC sounds in the national news media, it's worse. The images & accounts I've seen over the last few days have been horrific. Nearly half the death toll from Helene is in Buncombe County, alone. Search & rescue is being done with choppers, horses & mules. The infrastructure is torn down.
