Public defenders work for YOU. They do not work for "the state." They're paid a fraction of what prosecutors are paid for several times the workload.

Public defenders are not the problem with the legal system.

Some can’t get attorneys to defend them properly bc the attorney works for the state
How you getting a fair outcome
Today in court a litigant in a case before mine broke down crying because they'd spent $67,000 on attorneys and the case still wasn't over, they were denied appointed counsel, and had to represent themselves, and as much as we talk about universal healthcare we also need universal right to counsel.
