I learned though this what my project meant to me, do I really WANT to make a living off it or do I just wanna finish it. I wanna make art not a product. In the end my goal is to create. Even if it’s not my job

Think about your goals, what it means to you and what is really behind it all.

Back to disability. common advice disabled creators receive is make their disability a marketable trait. That’s wild. Personally I do not wish to sell my illness as a way to get views.

Every drawing, every character, every second extra is money and time.

Sometime limitations can open up room for creative problem solving. You need to be a problem solver at all times.

Adapting. A lot of adapting comes with production decisions. Get acquainted with the pipeline. What can you cut, how many characters have to be in each shot. Can the episodes be shorter, can they be rougher, experimental. Don’t let these limitations be the end of you, get creative.

Economy. How is the economy? If folks are struggling to pay groceries odds are they won’t be able to offer funding for project. you can’t expect them too.

You have to find another means to make this project work. This often means getting a part time, saving, or…

Look at older YouTube animations. does everything have to be polished to tell a good story?

How many people would be employed (full salary) at a company to finish what I expect. do the research on much time, funds and labour the production level you wish to achieve took

Expectations: what qualifies as an indie animation, if the industry is so broken while are we recreating its flaws too.

There’s a reason this is indie work. Because it’s independent. We don’t have to follow a roadmap. Do you have expectations for your project that are unrealistic? Ask yourself…

There are 3 things I want you to keep in mind while making a indie project:

- Expectations
- Economy
- Adapting

Once you don’t have your body working, it’s not as easy to go back. Take care of it. Disability can happen to anyone anywhere with no reason. 4 years ago, I could run, now there are days I can’t even lift my phone from fatigue. All it took was one flu and a couple all-nighters

There is encouragement and glorification of workaholic culture.

We are praised for speed and quality. If we pull all-nighters, it’s viewed as dedication and passion.

Passion ≠ damaging your body

Once you become disabled the odds are NOT in your favor. I cannot keep up at the speed that is already impossible for a healthy person.
December 4, 2025 at 12:49 PM
The internet and its algorithms are not kind. It’s “content” over art. We are expected to make art in ridiculous amounts of speed, amount and in great quality.

There is no regard for mental health, burn out or disability. It’s a luck game and the more disadvantages you have the less the luck works
