Sheffield Simplex Car from 1905 W 1110 This Sheffield Simplex was built in 1910 for Henry Dutton, a livestock farmer in Adelaide, South Australia. It cost £1000, the equivalent of over £80,000 today. During World War Two the car was converted to a lorry and used to carry bricks. After the war the car was dismantled, the engine used to pump water and the chassis used as a trailer. In 1979 the parts were acquired by Lord Riverdale and returned to Britain for restoration. The fully restored and working Simplex is on long term loan to Sheffield Museums from a private lender. Technical specifications: - LA2 Model - 45 horsepower, 7000cc engine - 6 cylinder, dual ignition (coil and magneto) - Foot and hand brakes on rear wheels - 1 emergency low and reverse gear (known as the Gearless Car)
