Just to put things into perspective:
‘UK immigration has fallen from its peak in 2023, with net migration in 2024 dropping to 431,000, a decrease of 52% from its high of 906,000 in the year ending June 2023. This decline is driven by a significant fall in non-EU+ immigration…’

Disgusting misrepresentation of Davy’s speech by selecting sound bites with only ‘Farage’ in.
Provide the whole context!
The BBC is to blame for over representing Farage which means that the LibDems have to respond to that agenda.
September 23, 2025 at 10:26 PM
Why is @bbcnewsnight.bsky.social hosting an arrogant idiot from Reform (only 4 or 5 MPs - far fewer than the LibDems or Greens!) They have no coherent policies as they won’t be elected.

U-turn means: 'turning to go in the OPPOSITE direction'.
Labour did NOT cancel winter fuel payments.
It did NOT cancel welfare reforms.
They listened to their MPs and modified the approach - in the SAME direction.
The comms were terrible though, amplified by the right-wing press!

I’m recovering from cold, but greatly improved seeing some nasty people fighting:

- Zia Yousuf of Reform resigned in a spat with Farage and their latest MP!

- Musk ranting v Trump on a bill that gives to the rich and kills the ‘Green’ initiative (which favoured Teslas EVs and other programs)!

😁

@Victoria Derbyshire on News night has lost it - kept asking ‘how many gangs have been smashed’.
Let Jacqui Smith (who I have little respect for) answer the f***ing question!
She responded: ‘an act is going through parliament today’ and I wanted to hear what she had to say.

British steel, Ukraine, local government…
Great to see two people you really dislike and don’t trust what they say arguing with dodgy facts and biases - Laura Kuensberg and Nigel Farage 😂

The best (and even mildly optimistic at the end!) analysis of the war in Ukraine and the psychological aspects of Putin and Trump that I have seen. Great work @Gavin Esler and @sam Greene

As a pensioner without great wealth who works, has a mortgage, and children to support:
‘’Although I like ‘free money’, I can survive without the winter fuel payment, and I appreciate that the pension has been increased and will continue to be increased under the triple lock with this government’’.
March 16, 2025 at 4:05 PM
The last government made two, unaffordable reductions in employee NI in a callous attempt to win votes.
This Government could have simply reversed those self-serving decisions, but quite rightly put back the (necessary) NI charge onto EMPLOYERS, i.e. ‘acting in the interests of working people’.

There is a war in Europe and our main ally has become unreliable. Even the ‘right-wing press’ can see this, and can’t complain if extra steps are taken to fund the war against the Russian invader.
Impose a special tax and ‘war bonds’ and use frozen Russian assets (e.g. Chelsea FC?) to pay for it.

PIP reductions;
Clearly the welfare bill has to be reduced, but ‘going after PIP’ is:
a) very unfair,
b) poor PR (unless trying to recruit Reform voters which would be reprehensible!), and
c) unproductive as some people will give up work without the support.

@timharford.bsky.social I don't think raising base rate reduces inflation! I know many homeowners and other 'haves' who spend more when the rate goes up, while the 'have nots' are already struggling and can't spend less. Am I wrong? Can you find reliable evidence of the link? I'd love to know 🙂

higher interest rates support the ‘haves’ over the ‘have nots’?
While the Bank of England keeps the base rate (ridiculously) high - “to keep down inflation” - Tesco just reported sales of its PREMIUM range’ up 15% over Christmas. Those buyers were ‘haves’ BENEFITING from high interest rates.

Rayner on Kuensberg’s:
LK seems unable to understand explanations about housing strategy from AR. It’s not exactly rocket science and seemed quite clear to me (a non-political/housing person) that they’re doing all the right things to improve. Bring back Andrew Marr!
