I am trying to avoid the labels ‘left’ and ‘right’ and, instead, talk about behaviours and values. It helps to keep me sane, anyway!

I was impressed while in Chile a few years ago when they were considering constitutional change that, a) they were doing so and, b) there were ordinary people on street corners handing out pamphlets encouraging reflection about the underpinning values of any new constitution.

Suggests several interesting questions.
What is the best mechanism to transfer wisdom down the generations?
As context falls away how does a piece of wisdom maintain its significance?
Would any repository of accumulated wisdom simply be a natural target?
I think we need a symposium on this!
