Hello BlueSkiers! I’ve made a starter back of people working on rewilding and similar things in UK and Ireland. Many more to add but it’s a start.

Incredible.

Jack Posobiec references the earliest version of antifa -- the anti-fascists in the Weimar Republic who were opposed to the Nazi Party -- as the bad guys.

This also applies I think to environmental campaigning. People are always talking about the need to stop using 'challenged' words or phrases like rewilding, net zero, climate change - but ultimately it is the content of these things which threatens powerful interests, not the words.. ⬇️

“The changing of names in order to destigmatise these conditions has been done for a very long time... And in my opinion, it doesn't work... because history suggests that sanitising a name only works for as long as people don't know what that new name means.”

We interrupt your mid morning tea break to invite you for a constitutional down an old street of York.

Today's saunter is down Stonegate, or the via praetoria to our Roman friends.

Come join us!
We are looking at an oil painting showing a street with buildings of different periods from late Tudor to Georgian and newer Victorian buildings. Shop fronts are brightly painted and people are stood in doorways or looking into windows. Some in the distance is climbing into a carriage.

How so? I suppose depends on alternative.

[I don't think anyone assumes all will be well, but for example its hard to see where the risk is (for wildlife) in allowing low quality farmland (for wildlife) to 'rewild'.]

Almost 4000 people have signed up to the biggest ever UK environmental lawsuit! Major poultry producers and a water company are being taken to the High Court over "extensive and widespread pollution" in three rivers - the Wye, Lugg and Usk.

Imagine wanting to be PM of a country but thinking that studying its languages in University was a waste of time.
alasdaircameron.bsky.social
It's astonishing really that someone who wants to be PM of a country would openly say that studying one of the languages of that country is a waste of time. Can't imagine that happening in Ireland or France for example.

I had to go on to a website there to find out what a drug mentioned in an article was (as I am square) and I always enjoy reading the made-up slang names for things. 'Super-pup', 'hillbilly-heroin'; etc.

“You described Reform and other parties across Europe today as among the 'right wing equivalents of the fascists in the 1930s'. Why?”

“Because that’s what they are”

In my teens I never had Heseltine down as a potential hero for my 40s.

I think with rewilding I am more sanguine, because I am not yet convinced we have sufficient scientific metrics to really satisfactorily get to the bottom of what it is trying to do (IMO).. obviously there are many that can guide the way but none that give whole picture... for region ag agree!.
alasdaircameron.bsky.social
For regenerative ag it depends on the purpose - if the main measure of success is to find examples that will ‘get people to stop talking about meat production as a problem’ it’s been pretty successful.
alasdaircameron.bsky.social
To a point. For rewilding I’d say jt depends in large extent what one thinks nature should be like and if it has a ‘correct’ state. And also how much one values non-empirical metrics such as the ‘wildness’ of a place or its ‘potential’.

Europeans voting for extremes must understand this. They’ll start with ones you might not like: muslims, homosexuals etc.

But as Amen in the church even light destillations of fascism will continue with journalism, courts and eventually physically threaten any kind of opposition. Even you.

Just sent out this post. Three and a half years after Bucha, after mass child abductions started, after nightly attacks on civilians, the political strength of parties sympathetic to Russia (which is doing these things) is growing not declining. open.substack.com/pub/phillips...

Obviously the country has its own issues but it’s being made so much worse as the US is working particularly hard to export its far right revolution to Britain.

I guess it's a party that is used to the idea it will always have an outsized portion of the press on its side. It may find that it is no longer the darling it was for some of them.

I shall look forward to my son reading it out to me line by line.

Four parties within a 5 point swing of first place and five parties on 12% plus.

This would be pure chaos under first past the post.
