Immigration and asylum law. All views my own but reposts not endorsement. Refugees welcome🧡. Green Party member💚. Trans 🏳️‍⚧️ rights are human rights. He/him.

"Lawyers have hitherto only interpreted the law. The point however is to change it."
Just disgraceful and dangerous beyond expression

I guess you’d say she’s succeeding, though perhaps not in the exact way she intended

Labour could certainly try this if they fancied triggering a massive constitutional crisis, one we avoided under the Tories because Sunak ducked out of sending people to Rwanda just before the election, despite passing an Act proclaiming it was safe to do so

An absolute 🤯 at every level

Obviously we’ll have to see the detail rather than the press briefing, but it’s not immediately obvious how a policy in which the public interest always trumps family life, or where a risk of inhuman treatment has to be balanced against the public interest, could possibly be consistent with the ECHR

Four days apart. Genuinely staggering how they keep doing this

Also, lol at “Why you can trust Sky News” in between a manufactured-panic caption and a piece saying it’s a manufactured panic

Things going well here for Angus, I see

Polly Toynbee is presumably paid handsomely for these weird fantasies about how it was only the tyranny of being popular which prevented Labour from giving full rein to its natural progressive instincts

Lib Dem MP here expressing concerns that “migrants” (in fact asylum seekers, or “human beings”, as they’re also known) might be allowed to live next door to people, and near a high street
October 28, 2025 at 1:24 PM
Just an endless parade of viciousness for the benefit of the worst people in the country
October 28, 2025 at 9:19 AM
Inverness's Liberal Democrat MP Angus MacDonald could usefully remind himself that he is talking about human beings here

Adverts should be representative of traditional British families

Reminder that “Brexit is bad because we can expel fewer asylum seekers“ is not an anti-racist position
October 26, 2025 at 1:45 PM
No remotely credible enquiry into child sexual exploitation could focus exclusively on one aspect of the problem singled out on purely racial grounds, but those calling most loudly for an enquiry won’t accept the outcome unless it does, so it’s no surprise people aren’t exactly queuing up to lead it

Jenrick accusing Lammy of being thick, whilst apparently under the impression that immigration judges wear wigs

Is it OK for Tory MPs to disagree with leaving the ECHR?

Badenoch: No

Is it OK for Tory MPs to whang on about the decline of the “White British” population?

Badenoch: I’m not a micromanager

We’re at a “fork in the road” with “a choice between decency or division”, we’re told Starmer is about to say today. Well, I wouldn’t disagree.

But…

All with the express intention of annoying its supporters and ingratiating itself with its enemies! Wild times!

Excited to hear what “legal constraints” on deporting lots of people Labour are about to abandon!
September 29, 2025 at 5:25 PM
Oh and of course ID cards, a long-held obsession with the Labour right, but basically a solution in search of a problem, and hardly one likely to appeal to sceptics of government power either on the left or the right 5/

The only positive policy proposal is this regeneration fund for depressed communities - which sounds like a good thing, right?! But why wait for the far right to surge before you think of it?! 4/
September 26, 2025 at 7:44 AM
Right wing concerns about immigration are not just legitimate but reasonable, apparently! But there is not a word of reassurance for people anxious and angry about the wildly racist turn this country is taking under his leadership 3/
September 26, 2025 at 7:44 AM
The repetition of the inflammatory claim that immigration has been uncontrolled, which is a lie if it refers to non-EU migration and, if if refers to EU free movement, is something he built his political career on supporting 2/
