Yeah, 100% - totally on the same page as you. I raised the commercial point, because I really do want to pay someone to manage some of my stuff. But it can be hard to know who will nuke a product, change the api, start charging extra for no reason. I follow my nose, but still make bad decisions!

I mean, yes I agree, but the alternatives you list are also commercial services. I don't think the problem is the business model, but more the behaviour of companies who throw things out to see what sticks and constantly shut things down. Same goes for many OS projects led by big tech players.

But you won't hear this often because there's no profit for VCs in bus / train tickets. That's fine, it's their job to multiply their investment. The problem is that society & popular discourse pays disproportionate attention to what the money people are doing.

I'd been collecting tech / data RSS feeds for a long while before, so I started out with 5k feeds. I gathered a bunch more from hackernews and places like bluesky. Now I think it's nearly 50k feeds. It's explicitly geared towards techie / academic content, but there's a lot of variance!
