Translators work hard to make sure that the translated words, sentences, paragraphs, chapters, etc, not only convey the author's meaning, but also the author's *style.*

Translators are alchemists. They are artists, and poets, and researchers, and editors. They are magicians and wizards.

Definitely something to think about! At this point, I'm still not sure whether it's a hobby I'd get a ton of enjoyment out of just yet, so I'd like something accessible to test the waters first and then see if I'm game for the Big Boy models with accommodations like magnifying lamps. Thank you!!

You hate Duolingo. That is not a question. I hate Duolingo too, but what if it was good? Renshuu is lovingly made to build Japanese skills and give you options in how you study

Jiten helps you find books, anime, visual novels, and more on your level that you can enjoy within your current vocabulary range (or offer a bit of a challenge if you're still learning the basics.) It's an amazing database for finding accessible series I can actually understand

A step up from Tadoku, Satori Reader is an excellent bridge with stories and audio included, giving you a real sense for how actual JP fiction is written in bite-sized, digestible pieces. It's not free, but if you can support the team, everything is made in-house by hand

Tadoku graded readers, my beloved, just like when kids are learning to read English for the first time, having gentle, accessible texts to help build confidence and momentum is plenty valuable

Quick and dirty grammar guide that skips the fuss and gives you the essential building blocks to start understanding and building sentences. It's not intended to be comprehensive, but nice as a refresher or a way to get your foot in the door

A pretty, functional site to reference every entry from the Dictionary of Japanese Grammar, basic to advanced! You can check off grammar points you already know and study those still unfamiliar to you, so it's super useful as you go along
