Arquitectura, esdevenir i estudis catalans
En reconeixement de la designació de Barcelona per part de la UNESCO com a Capital
Mundial de l’Arquitectura 2026, la North American Catalan Society dedicarà el seu 5è Seminari
d’Estiu a l’arquitectura. Fent-nos ressò del tema proposat pel Congrés Mundial de la Unió
Internacional d’Arquitectes, "Esdevenir: Arquitectures per a un Planeta en Transició", que també
tindrà lloc a Barcelona el 2026, convidem propostes que explorin les interseccions entre
l’arquitectura i els estudis catalans.
Ens interessen especialment contribucions que abordin críticament els sis eixos temàtics del
Congrés de la UIA: “becoming beyond-human, attuned, embodied, interdependent,
hyper-conscious, circular.” Els temes poden incloure (entre d’altres): arquitectura i pensament
ecològic; territoris urbans i rurals, locals i globals; el paper de l’espai construït en la llengua, la
literatura i les polítiques identitàries catalanes; processos d’esdevenir i circularitat en l’espai i el
temps arquitectònics i literaris; i les dimensions cíviques, artístiques o simbòliques de
l’urbanisme i l’arquitectura catalanes. Acceptem múltiples formats, com ara estudis de casos,
exploracions teòriques i investigacions pràctiques basades en disseny per part d'acadèmics de
qualsevol disciplina que treballin a la intersecció de l'arquitectura i els estudis catalans en un
sentit ampli.
Architecture, Becoming, and Catalan Studies
In recognition of Barcelona’s designation by UNESCO as the 2026 World Capital of
Architecture, the North American Catalan Society will devote its 5th Summer Seminar to
architecture. Echoing the theme proposed by the International Union of Architects’ World
Congress, “Becoming: Architectures for a Planet in Transition,” also happening in Barcelona in
2026, we invite contributions that explore the intersections of architecture and Catalan studies.
We particularly welcome contributions that engage critically with the six thematic strands of the

Funcionament del seminari
Propostes
Per a presentar propostes de participació, envieu un resum d’unes 200 paraules al comitè
organitzador de la jornada (eillas@iu.edu; rcapdevilawerning@fas.harvard.edu) abans del 31
de gener de 2026. En un document separat, envieu el nom, títol del paper i la vostra afiliació.
El resum ha de ser anònim ja que passa per un procés de revisió per parells. Rebreu una
resolució abans de la darrera setmana de març.
Abans del 15 de juny, els ponents faran arribar als altres participants un assaig breu de presa
de posició respecte el tema del la seva contribució. Aquests assajos breus cal que estiguin
escrits en català o en anglès, siguin redactats en un estil afí al d’un article d’opinió, i tinguin una
extensió d’entre 3 i 5 pàgines. Els participants hauran llegit tots els assajos de la seva sessió
abans del seminari del dia 1de juliol. A la taula rodona, el ponents faran un resum o extendran
el que havien exposat a l’assaig en 3 o 4 minuts. Després de les breus presentacions, hi haurà
una discussió general.
Públic participatiu
Si us interessa assistir a la jornada com a públic participatiu (és a dir, havent llegit amb
antelació els assajos de presa de posició i participant a la discussió general de les taules
rodones), us podeu inscriure a finals de juny.
Summer Session Details
Submissions
To be considered for participation as a speaker, please send an abstract (200 words in length)
to the Organizing Committee (eillas@iu.edu; rcapdevilawerning@fas.harvard.edu) by January
31th 2026. On a separate document, send your name, title of paper and filiation. Please do not
include your name on the abstract as it will go through a peer review process. Decisions will be
sent by the last week of March.
By June 15th, speakers will share an informal position paper in response to their roundtable
questions with the other seminar participants. These informal papers will be 3 to 5 pages long,
written in English or Catalan, in an op-ed style, with minimal …

PREMI DE LA NORTH AMERICAN CATALAN SOCIETY (NACS)
PER UN TREBALL D’EXCEL·LÈNCIA EN EL CAMP DELS ESTUDIS CATALANS
BASES
1) L’objectiu del premi és atorgar un reconeixement a estudis de catalanística realitzats per
estudiosos vinculats professionalment a institucions acadèmiques i de recerca de NordAmèrica, que constitueixin aportacions rigoroses i de qualitat en aquest camp.
2) Poden optar al premi aquells treballs publicats entre l’u de gener de 2024 i l’u de desembre
de 2025.
3) Els treballs han d’estar publicats en el moment de la seva nominació. No es podran nominar
aquells treballs només acceptats per a publicació.
4) La nominació dels treballs és lliure. Per proposar un treball, cal enviar una referència
bibliogràfica abans de l'u de desembre de 2025 a secretarinacs@gmail.com.
5) El premi es podrà atorgar a un article, a un capítol de llibre, a una monografia, a una edició
acadèmica o a una traducció.
6) El jurat està format pels següents membres: Olga Sendra Ferrer (Wesleyan Universty),
Albert Lloret (University of Massachusetts, Amherst) i Aurélie Vialette (Yale University),
presidenta del comitè.
7) La presidenta de la NACS lliurarà el premi, que consistirà en un diploma acreditatiu, durant
el Col·loqui que se celebrarà a la State University of New York (SUNY), Buffalo, el 2025. A
més, l’investigador/a premiat/da rebrà una retribució econòmica de $800 per ajudar a pagar les
despeses derivades de l’assistència al Col·loqui.
8) Per nominar els treballs només caldrà enviar-ne la referència bibliogràfica. En cas
necessari, el president del jurat podrà demanar còpia dels textos presentats.
9) Tota la informació relacionada amb el premi es penjarà en breu a la pàgina web de la NACS (https://nacs.iec.cat/premis-nacs/).

THE NORTH AMERICAN CATALAN SOCIETY (NACS) PRIZE
For outstanding work in the field of Catalan Studies
COMPETITION GUIDELINES
1) The prize was created to recognize rigorous and high-quality contributions to the field of
Catalan Studies made by scholars whose prime professional affiliation is with a university or
research institute in North America.
2) All studies published between January 1, 2024, and December 1, 2025 will be eligible.
3) Studies must have already been published to be eligible for the competition. Those that have
been accepted but not published will not be considered eligible.
4) The nomination process is completely open. Any person may nominate any study for
consideration. To nominate a work, a bibliographical reference must be sent by December 1,
2025, to secretarinacs@gmail.com.
5) The prize may be granted in recognition of the quality of an article, a book chapter, a book, an
academic edition or a translation.
6) The jury is composed of the following members: Olga Sendra Ferrer (Wesleyan University),
Albert Lloret (University of Massachusetts, Amherst), and Aurélie Vialette (Yale University),
chair.
7) The President of the North American Catalan Society will announce the award at the 2026
Colloquium of the Society, which will be held at the SUNY, Buffalo. The award will consist of a
certificate and $800 to help defray the cost of the awardee’s participation in the Colloquium.
8) A simple bibliographical citation will suffice to nominate a given study or work. Should the
need arise, the president of the selection committee may request a copy of a work or study from
the author.
9) This call for nominations is posted on the North American Catalan Society website
