We need to build more housing and create more jobs. If we don’t, taxpayers will be left footing the bill.

This head tax would drive jobs out of Chicago or prevent them from being created in the first place.

Chicago has 1.2 million private sector workers overall. This proposal hits 17.1% of them, nearly 1 out of every 6 workers.

Across the entire workforce (1.38 million employees) it still affects 15% of all jobs.

The Mayor says the new tax will raise $82 million. That only happens if it applies to ~207,000 workers citywide.

That's not targeting a handful of corporate giants, that's a broad tax!

Mayor Johnson shouldn't rush through $3.8B more. We need to know exactly what we're borrowing for and how we’re paying it back. Without a clear and more responsible plan, all essential services — like safety, education, & transit — will suffer.

The last major borrowing plan came with a back-loaded, interest-only structure that pushed repayment decades into the future (like if you took out a mortgage and only repaid the minimums). We can’t repeat that.

The Mayor’s Office still hasn't shared an updated pay-down schedule with changes made since Thursday. The ordinances don’t clearly match the stated uses & we already have a lot of unused debt authority.
