This staircase in the Palazzo Contarini del Bovolo, Venice is said (by our guide) to be the prototype for daVinci's spiral staircase in Chambord.

I hope you're not implying that Chambers has been abandoned. It's visited by over a million people a year. As to the staircase - I had the privilege of visiting about 20 years ago. Even while climbing it, it's almost impossible to figure out how the two intertwining staircases work.
