I came across a similar thing Wednesday night. Casting Cure Wounds (2014) is 1d8 plus Spellcasting modifier. Upcasting to 2nd level gives 2d8 plus Spellcasting Modifier. So for a backup healer (like a Ranger) it is better to cast the spell twice at first level, than once at second level. 2x on SCM.

You also know that the expectation has always been learn as you play and the 2024 rule set bends over backwards to explain this. And let’s not forget the 537-page doorstop that someone wrote explaining how to run a game. Is that unreasonably long too and should people not buy it?

Sorry, but this argument is pretty disingenuous, because you know that the vast majority of those 900 pages are customization options and not the core rules, and they do a pretty good job of explaining that, especially in products like the starter set or the free Basic Rules posted on D&D Beyond.

If we actually had a regulatory structure in place, the FTC would hit them up for Truth-In-Advertising violations for using "Homemade" instead of "Home-style."

They have no appreciation for the historical reality that We are the descendants of the people that Europe didn't want; that Europe discarded; that Europe sought to marginalize. We have more in common with the people that DHS are persecuting than the people that Noem thinks she descend from.

Following Apple's playbook of "We know better than the user how the user should use and want to use the user interface and features of an app."

I switched to Apple because mostly their stuff just works, but there are times that I scream "You have simplified the functionality right out of this!!!"

That's because sharks for the most part, do not use their visual system to hunt like land animals do. Smell, Electroreception, Hearing, and Touch are their primary senses for locating prey.

Is there an estimate of how much of the sea floor fossil record has been lost to plate tectonics and recycling at subduction zones?

I think you will find this Facebook Post interesting. Draws parallels to Wormtongue and the people we see influencing policy today. I hadn't thought of it that way, but Tolkien seems to have predicted your former classmate.

The first project should be a remake of Escape from New York, but it is just a reality show of FoxNews moving its headquarters to Florida (one can only dream).

Were those mock ups for the Drakkenheart cards, or does @matthewmercer.bsky.social just casually rock a Commander Deck wherever he goes?

just observing the excitement associated with this creative team now that they are in LA as opposed to the derision they faced from the same community when they were working in Seattle.

they produced for D&D at Wizards? Is it that they don't know that Jeremy and Chris were the leads for the products they have been trashing mercilessly? Is it that they feel that Jeremy and Chris were being stifled? Something else?

Aside: I think they did a lot of really good work at D&D, I am

Hold on... is the internet giving you grief because of you, Matt, and Aabria when the Seekers and the Schemers separated in episode 5?
1) Ignore them
2) Everyone else, grow up!

Halflings, all defined by their actions and faction associations. It becomes a far more interesting and nuanced game, and even opens up the opportunity for redemption arcs or descent into evil arcs, allowing for all of that exploration in the safe space of a gaming table.
November 11, 2025 at 5:20 PM
No it’s not. All you need to do is establish factions that are defined by their actions as good or evil or somewhere in between. The Cult of Vecna, clearly evil; same with the Red Wizards of Thay. The Harpers and the Emerald Enclave, mostly good. Then you can have noble orcs and Drow and evil
