I agree, the leaders are great to freshen up the game after many plays or potentially handicap an experienced player (at least for the ones I am not very good with). Difficult to teach for someone fresh to the game or few/infrequent plays.

My wife sees me this way whenever I bring her a board game I want to play.

War is a monarchy head-to-head card game that is quick, light, and only lacking asymmetry. Though I wouldn’t say I played a ‘war game’.

Perhaps since there is territory being fought over it lends this more to a traditional war game (from the looks of it at least).

I plan to play with my wife mostly, or solo from this BGG variant (boardgamegeek.com/thread/25338...).
It seems similar to how I would jam through That’s So Clever solo.
