"There are people here right now who serve in the National Guard, who have jobs and families in their home states, who have been sent on a fool's errand by this president to instill terror in our community at the cost of their home communities, their home states." - @alexdodds.bsky.social

Can I get a HELL YEAH for @yourombudsmom.bsky.social and DC abortion access reporting and for this line in particular from @alexdodds.bsky.social: “I would invite people who care about abortion to organize to protect abortion before those attacks do happen."
theflytrapmedia.com
ICYMI: This week we published @yourombudsmom.bsky.social's on how DC is one of the last outposts for abortion access throughout pregnancy in the United States. The district's murky legal status might change that though: theflytrap.beehiiv.com/p/the-distri...
The District of Abortion
Washington, D.C.’s murky legal status could have a devastating ripple effect on abortion nationwide.

The House just voted to undo DC's Sanctuary law.

This is not what DC communities want, and it is an incredibly dangerous threat to everyone who lives here.

We will fight to stop this bill from passing.

Love to see it: DPR’s Roving Leaders program is offering programming for kids on spring break this week AND they’re doing it at Upshur Park Rec Center, which I have never seen open in all my years here. “We’re bringing it back!”

I’m on my way to the Capitol right now with other councilmembers to ask House GOP to fix their mistake in the CR that would cut $1b from DC’s budget – DC's own money! It would cut police, fire, teachers & more. That does not make DC safer, cleaner, or better!

The difference between “resistance” and “resilience” is meaningfully important in this moment. We do need to stop their actions but we can and should be creating our own power too.
alexdodds.bsky.social
“Resilience” makes more clear that the people create our own power and can generate power if we choose to. It’s not the same as “acceptance.”
alexdodds.bsky.social
“Resistance” positions power somewhere else — i.e., we are “resisting” the power which someone else holds.

This misses the fact that we also have power and can use it.

On WAMU this morning a guest described Odessa in Ukraine as a center of “irrepressible resilience.” The guest almost said “resistance” but corrected himself midway. It’s an important distinction 🧵

Tweet from Mayor Bowser: It's official: DC can control its destiny at the
RIK campus.
Today, the @councilofdc unanimously approved my legislation to accept the transfer of jurisdiction of the RFK site to DC and now, we have the opportunity to put the land back to productive use for our city.
Let's get to work!

Days filled with anxiety and danger have turned into a three-year-long nightmare. This city survives on the sheer willpower of those who love it. Our determination to resist and save our home keeps us going. And I am proud to be one of its citizens.
