It is nuts that NWS sent out flash flood alerts on mobile and FB but local government in Kerr County seems totally reliant on FB as their primary warning system (KXAN, NYT).

Fair. I suppose I was incorporating this part into my post. Even if social media is good for some or even most kids, which I don't believe it is, there was no consideration of what might happen when it was fully unleashed on them. Many are addicts, and all are a line item to boost profit margin.

“It gets back to money in politics and the domination of Big Money…over the Republican and Democratic parties.

Sometimes these issues about healthcare and about income and wealth inequality are not talked about in the corporate media and it’s time that we did talk about them.”

Leopards Eating People's Faces Party refers to a parody of regretful voters who vote for cruel and unjust policies (and politicians) and are then surprised when their own lives become worse as a result. knowyourmeme.com/memes/leopar...

The pragmatist in me says, "just throw the embryos away!" But this isn't about the embryos, it's about Petrova's opposition to Putin's war and subsequent arrest in Russia.

SecDef Austin in typical travel attire v. SecDef Hegseth.

He's dressed like he's some cowboy too good for the job (while defending his huge Signal spillage error). The lack of deference is giving, he doesn't know how unqualified he is which is pretty frightening.

No the point is to democratize learning, knowledge. There are no absolutes. It can't exist as a tool of the few or completely unchecked for all.

When I said remember perfectly, statistically in the limit it is now replicating Ghibli "perfectly"

The Consumer Confidence Index (Conference Board) and Consumer Sentiment Index (Michigan) are closely watched by economists because consumer spending drives ~ 2/3 of the U.S. GDP. Each index focuses on different factors driving spending behavior (jobs vs. inflation/finances). surl.li/bikgfv

She didn't even know how to apply for a jury trial in the state of New York and got Trump stuck with a bench trial and a $400 million verdict in his business fraud case.

Trump really doesn't understand the meaning of "merit." www.quora.com/Why-did-Trum...

While his article "Kill Tesla, Save…" is protected hyperbole, I don't agree with the photo Wilson included.

It raises an interesting question though. Are violent offenders against Tesla "terrorists" or "patriots?"

Using the J6 model, they're the latter, and deserving of a presidential pardon.

Bernie didn't answer the AOC question because he's not a political strategist; he's not going to speculate.

He similarly sidestepped this trans-rights question.

He avoids questions aimed at pulling him into political games that will divide people.

Excellent critique of the Democratic Party. Bernie is authentic in his positions in large part because he gets small-dollar donations from individual supporters.

Like everyone standing up to Musk this is bravery, heroes work. Especially commendable in the tech sector where his power is concentrated 👏

Video was sponsored by Luminar Tech (a competing LIDAR company) and he's using autopilot not FSD, looks like he engaged it seconds before. While LIDAR is the safest (and most expensive) choice for machine vision, his test methods are getting some backlash. www.forbes.com/sites/bradte...

The irony is hard to ignore – that the Five Eyes, conceived during the Cold War and still trained on Moscow today, would be hobbled by Trump in an act of coercion, only to have Russia plausibly use the ban to launch a missile attack on civilians in Ukraine. www.newsweek.com/america-led-...

Some argue that a down market & lower 10-yr yield lowers the barrier to asset entry (securities, homes, etc).

A tariff-driven down market 👉stagflation. Wages for "asset lights" won't keep up with inflation, & expenses, including homes, will be more out of reach. finance.yahoo.com/news/live/st...

This article is a must read: "Since 1985, rent prices have exceeded income gains by 325 percent."

& Unlike "the recession of 2008…These workers aren’t “falling” into homelessness. They’re being pushed. They’re the casualties not of a failing economy but of one that’s thriving — just not for them."

PBC means the only people with legal standing to challenge OpenAl's commitment to its public benefit mission are stakeholders – primarily investors, board members, or major shareholders. This creates a fundamental conflict of interest.
February 17, 2025 at 3:59 PM
This is the outlook for any purely profit-driven AI. When OpenAI is no longer under nonprofit control, it will be vulnerable. They'll retain their PBC (public benefit corporation) status, but the exec exodus in the fall is a sign of a potentially reckless strategic direction.
