I'm horrified by the reports of an attack on the Jewish community at Heaton Park synagogue, on Yom Kippur, the holiest day in the Jewish calendar. My thoughts are with the victims and their families, and all those affected by this horrific attack.

The Fair Elections APPG that I chair is now the biggest in Parliament, with 150 members (& more than half of these being Labour). One of our key aims is electoral reform with a proportional system, so there is a substantial amount of support for this in parliament

Dickie Bird was a wonderful man and a great humanitarian.

It was an honour to spend the day with him during the Pakistan test in 2018.

His work with young people and his generosity to Barnsley Hospital shone through.

We’ll not see his like again. May his memory be a blessing

British-Egyptian Alaa Abdel Fattah has been granted a presidential pardon. I have advocated for this, including by writing to the Chair of Egyptian Foreign Affairs Cttee

This is welcome news, but now we must call for him to be allowed to travel to the UK to join family

People want to demonstrate the desperation they feel towards the famine in Gaza and the planned annexation of the west bank through peaceful protest, and it is difficult for many of us to see the mass arrests of people holding placards. We must reflect again on the effects of proscription.
