It’s a resource extraction power play, and if Trump can “negotiate” a favorable deal using threats to Greenland’s sovereignty, ("I'm gonna make him an offer he can't refuse."), instead of risking WWIII, it works just the same, and Trump and his oligarchs get insanely rich off the scheme.
