The book takes place a year prior to the set (presumably Lorwyn Eclipsed into Secrets of Strixhaven are pretty close to back-to-back), and these four are first-years, so they wouldn't have enrolled yet.

You're replying to a comment about the Yankees being treated as a power based on past success that doesn't reflect how they've performed since, citing titles from that past success isn't a counterargument. NYY has won 1 title in the last 20 years (in 2009), they haven't been a power for a while.

it made its own mixtape (Legion's iri add-on), so...maybe yes to both?

Foundations had Stab, which is a functional reprint of Disfigure.

Then you want his brother Jeremy's uniform.

Near as I can see from a scryfall search (I also don't play MTGO), Doctor Who seems to be the only non-Secret Lair UniBey product without its mechanically-unique cards on MTGO.

Cutter, Rage, Abuelo's Awakening, one of Heartfire/Manifold. Maybe Beanstalk and Hopeless Nightmare, depending on how aggressive you want to be about potential second-order issues and/or general rotation of overstayed archetypes. Hit the most brutally fast decks to allow more room for meta churn.

Ahh, Oko, right. Sorry, Kellan.

Two, off the top of my head: Teferi (Niambi) and Urza (Harbin). Angrath is a dad, but neither of his daughters have cards (yet). I guess depending on how you count Ugin's relationship with Tarkir's dragonstorms, he's kind of the dad of at least the dragonlords, but that's fuzzier.

This one's been done! Just under his actual Phyrexian name rather than his sleeper agent cover name:

Most of the names I'd bring up have already been mentioned (Hekara, Tacenda, Leshrac, Rat, the Unluckiest, Shadowblayde, Ms Highwater...), so I'll spotlight Spindlewright, the first leader of the Beasties: Keep Them Alive was a lovely little tale that merits recognition, and he was its center.

oh, also the four uncarded paruns

Top 5: Spindlewright, Tacenda, Leshrac, Shadowblayde, the Unluckiest. Honorable mentions: everyone from Like No Other Beast, Hekara, Rat, all of the missing Nine Titans (especially Taysir and Bo Levar), Royse, Ms Highwater, Kallist, Grete, Sifa Grent, Isabough.

MEM wouldn't have been involved in the tiebreaker: they finished 48-34 (w/ a win in their last game), the other 3 would have all finished 49-33. It was the Nuggets that could've caused a 4-way tie (with the result of MIN 4, LAC 5, GSW 6, DEN 7, as far as I can tell).

I'm just saying not to mistake correlation with causation. That's the window where things would be happening regardless of which set happens to precede it.
March 31, 2025 at 4:31 PM
Technically correct, in that the first ban window after FIN releases is the right-before-rotation window where they've said they'll "consider more nuanced changes"; but it'll be bc of rotation, not bc FIN in particular isn't hacking it. (SPM/TLA won't get special treatment distinct from EOE/Lorwyn.)

Also, the 4 Mono-Red players that lost, lost to the mirror. The deck went 10-0 against everyone else.
March 30, 2025 at 10:34 PM
Did it in my head rather than typing it out, so not gonna retroactively post it out here, but I made it back to Lorwyn. Would've been Invasion (was proud of myself for getting the Otaria sets right, those are a morass for me), but I guessed wrong which blocks Coldsnap was between.

let it wash over you like the ar-kansas river
March 21, 2025 at 7:59 PM
how else are you gonna template a split spell/permanent where you can cast either half from hand? (also adventures have the "looks like pages of a book" stylization, omens don't.)
March 19, 2025 at 3:58 PM
Spree was a mechanic they thought they'd likely want to reuse in other contexts, so it wanted a more generic name that could support that. SYE was understood to be a pretty narrow mechanic that one set would mostly exhaust the effective space of, so it didn't need to be re-adaptable.

Scars of Mirrodin block is definitely the first (as other replies said, was originally going to be a Reveal than NP *used* to be Mirrodin). For the second, best guess is Theros? Was supposed to start prehistoric and have big time jumps w/ each following set, but don't remember the planned endpoint.
February 7, 2025 at 3:33 PM
Vampire -> Pirate -> Dinosaur -> Merfolk, I think? I remember it started as vampires vs (what would become) the sun empire, then added a 3rd faction, and at some point dinos were added as their own faction before being folded into the sun empire (prompting a new 4th), but the exact order escapes me.
