Her and I will always have so much. A true confidante with no competition. Decades of history. Each other’s living diary. We went all over NM. Visiting Los Angeles, San Diego, and New Orleans. Trips to Tx and Co. We were supposed to have so much more though. Kristin Gonzales.

My dear and beloved Kristin.
You were on such a beautiful, giving, and bright trajectory. From the days we spent together in the costume factory of our high school theatre to watching you earn a double master’s degree, work with children, and then thrive in the film industry, I was so proud of you.

We slipped and slid our way through the mud yesterday. Met other hikers and not one managed to stay upright. Everyone took a turn falling, including us. We tried to make it to Cracked Eggs, but the mud had other plans (and we still had a three-hour drive home). With @pinonjuniper.bsky.social 🥾

Probably my 6th or so time hiking the Bisti Badlands. Absolutely amazing to see water flowing in places where I’ve seen erosion and imagined, in my mind, the storm… incredible to see the force in action.

Orchid from @pinonjuniper.bsky.social is blooming again. 🥰
You can see I let the stem grow out horizontally.
I started with 3 oz every Thursday and we’re up to 4 oz now but I’ll go down to 3.5 for the winter months once it’s done blooming.
I’m hoping these flowers last at least 4 weeks. Maybe 5-6.

Hanging out at Little Bear with my book and a latte. Finally really getting into The City and It’s Uncertain Walls and it’s hitting like a semi truck. It’s so beautiful I have to keep taking breaks so I don’t burst into tears. Ideas of permanence and eternal love ripping me apart. 10/10 so far.

Beautiful fall morning in Peñasco, NM.
I tapped each key of this weather-worn piano until one answered back, a small stubborn song for the wind to carry.

If you go, I recommend watching the video piece on “degenerate art,” which anchors the entire exhibit and is really well done. Through it, I learned that the Nazis confiscated over 16,000 works labeled as degenerate art and many of the artists featured were captured, jailed, tortured and killed.

It would be hard to be an artist at heart, but also at the same time, be the man and the institution. So I am forever having mixed feelings for State art museums, like the Albuquerque Art Museum. Not one word about Gaza or MAGA directly, an abomination- the SHAME, but then we get exhibits like this:

Guess which Shakespeare play I saw last night in Santa Fe based on these two turns of phrase that stayed with me:
“Minions of the moon” 🌙
“Tell the truth and shame the devil”
