Read @amandaearl.bsky.social's review of @aliceburdick.bsky.social's Ox Lost, Snow Deep (pub. @anvilpress.bsky.social) in Issue 31!

I loved [it]. It is full of subversions of fixed expressions and ideas, knock-your-socks-off observations and quirky aphorisms..

The cover of Ox Lost, Snow Deep, by Alice Burdick. The bottom two-thirds of the cover is white, with a black-and-white photo of an ox near the top, and the title and author's name lower down. The top third of the cover is a deep blue

2) This was the 1st of my 6 books to have ever been listed for any poetry awards. Ox made it to the longlist for the Raymond Souster Award too. I’m a poetry lifer, at it since the early 90s, writing without awards in mind & will continue. But it’s a nice encouragement for this aging poet. 🐂❄️

1) I’m so grateful that Ox Lost, Snow Deep was so deeply read & felt by the jury of the Maxine Tynes Nova Scotia Poetry Award. This citation almost made me cry. Congratulations to Cory Lavender, who won the award, & to Annick MacAskill, also on the shortlist.

I am so happy that Ox Lost, Snow Deep has been getting some love! It’s my 6th book, and the first one that’s been on any short and longlists ever! That feels great in itself. 🐂❄️ @anvilpress.bsky.social

My daughter’s very excellent drawing of our four very nice boycats. Actually spot on in terms of personality too.

@augustawynde.bsky.social and I had a great time reading to a very full house yesterday at the gorgeous LaHave River Books!

Absolutely! I find it funny that poetry is so often in the “other” category in terms of perceived value

Occasionally there’s still a PWYC jar here because of course there are costs to hosting in any space, but the general expectation seems to be that poetry readings are free. Aside from those associated with festivals
