I second this - and the personal stats (e.g. which actor or director have you been seen most of this year/all time) are fun!

Agreed, and I'm looking forward to the latest one - saving it for my post-xmas journey home tomorrow. 😊 Being subscribed to Drama on 4 and Archive on 4 on Sounds is a real treat sometimes.

I'll be so sad when this technology, along with the magic of linear TV in general (as I still discover so many movies at random and hit record) is fully replaced with a multitude of streaming apps, which is a better experience apparently.

I've found that one of the best ways to see as many classic movies as possible (along with physical media when I can afford it) is keeping an eye on the TV schedules each week. I have 2TB Freesat recorder containing over 300 of films of my own choosing, which doesn't rely on my Internet connection.

Channel 4 are now showing about 26 episodes of *Frasier* a week, meaning that the Frasier year is now just over ten weeks long. That’s even shorter than a year on Mercury.

When talkies took over, silent movies were instantly out of style. (Well, over the course of 2-3 years, almost instantly)

Studios quickly remade their silent hits, silent films were recut for dubious comedy. Talkie stars denied ever being in them.

I loved it! I cheered at Blue Washington! I swooned at Jacqueline Logan! And how on earth did Richard Arlen manage to look like a teddy boy in the mid-1920s?? In fact, the hairstyles of that crew seemed to span the whole second half of the 20th century...

I second this! @dirtyfeed.org is a fantastic read/resource for UK comedy especially.

Nevermind, I just got in. 🥳

Hmm... I bought my online pass 2 weeks ago, but I can't seem to find my way in to see the first films, even though I'm logged in on that page. I'll wait until tomorrow in case it's a blip, before I start getting worried. 😬

I can't wait! Although every year I manage to get myself lost on that website. 🤪 Hopefully I'll know where I am once the first film is available... 🎞 🩶

It was also the first time I had seen Mary Astor in a silent film that wasn't a period drama. I can't stop thinking about how ridiculously young and beautiful she is.
