Slow Writer and Recovering Medievalist. Mother of Three. Californian who never meant to move to Canada, but ended up here anyway.
I remember this rumor going around my high school, with a school mate's Air Force uncle cited as the source. How he heard that from his uncle when we had not fully moved on from pagers as a society is unknown.

[Jokes about inevitability of canceriferous dumplings not meant to imply endorsement-- as a good daughter of San Francisco I neither waste good seasonal crab nor put cream cheese in my Chinese food.]

Yes.

On the other hand, Attack of the Clones is mostly watchable when a child insists on skipping all the "mushy stuff".

This was academic publishing, but I once met an editor who first read the abstract, and then the acknowledgements, to get a sense of how a dissertation might become a book.

Now I always read them, especially for non-fiction.

After years of O'Hara disasters getting to my family in Iowa, I have an automatic stress reaction to the name of the place.

Mom would also want you to remember The Monkees, whom I don't believe she saw live but who knows, she's seen a lot of unlikely bands.

My mom saw the Beatles at the Hollywood Bowl with my grandfather as her chaperone. (There's a background story there but anyway.) She reports that girls were screaming and climbing the curtains and she was so, so embarrassed that her dad was a witness to all of that.
