I remember as a kid how John Wayne was supposedly some great actor, when he was so obviously a caricature of a human. Some old-timers I love are Katherine Hepburn, Charles Laughton, & Cary Grant, all of whom seemed 'real.' James Dean was a bit over the top, but he was treading down Brando Street.
