The timer has no objective impairment on your ability to improve though.

If anything, it should help you improve faster since it forces you to fail faster, thus making you come to terms with what you did wrong so you can fix it faster...

Then again, its not like people need to express everything they think/feel super eloquently anyways, so maybe this isn't really any kind of objective problem at the end of the day anyways...right?! :D

lol :P

Sonic detractors aren't going to be as nuanced with thier critiques as fans are. Cause why would they be? They don't have the same investment, its just another game to them.

For this reason, I think certain fans could try to understand the opposing side a bit more.

Like you said way back in your CD video, just because you can speedrun Wave Ocean or Wacky Workbench doesn't necessarily mean its well designed.

Actually, this leads me to something else I've thought of that I haven't quite put into words yet...

I've definitely noticed this spectrum a long time ago, its a "difficulty" discourse but from a differed angle.

Its why I try to put more focus on "how well is this designed" more than most things. "Is this game fun to improve at and does it reward me for doing so?" might be a good place to start.

... "this game isn't for me" rather than something being fundamentally wrong with the game or something.

Different tastes for different people, as I'm sure your very aware of by now! :D

(hopefully that all makes sense though! lol :P)

...I don't personally agree with that.

The game has its hard moments sure, but its never NES hard or even SNES hard in a lot of cases.

I may be biased because as a young kid I struggled with a lot of the levels, but I also loved every second of it, so to me this is just another case of...

(I fall in the former camp in case your wondering. Jak 1 is the most different from its sequels though, so in a sense it doesn't actually matter that much)

Like the OP replied to this post, he not only finds Jak 2 hard but unfair. Given the perspective I have on gaming as a whole though...

...in comparison.

I say all this because while I do come across some Jak opinions I personally disagree with a lot, they very seldomly surprise me.

This is quite an over simplication, but generally the consensus of these games is either:

Jak 2 > 3 > 1

or

Jak 1 > 3 > 2

I grew up playing Jak 1 - 3 & X as a young kid right as each game came out. I played them all thoroughly before seeing what the "discourse" was like online

Unlike other games I played during my childhood (Classic Sonic + Spyro 3 as good examples) my nostaigia for said games seems to be lesser...

Do I think you'd like the game if you played it now?

Eh, its hard to say, especially if your not familiar with the source material. It might not be your thing at all but I would definitely say that its interesting enough to at least check out if you find yourself bored enough one day! :D

lol :P

> Both protags are girls with red hair

> Both seem to have been localized by the same company (the CD version in PM's case)

> Both released on Sega consoles and other ones as well!

...for this game!

I then found out it had an anime and the rest was history!

The game itself is fairly good for what it is on top of that! A clumsy Zelda LotP clone but that's what one could expect to be honest.

I can't help but put overlap in my mind between this game and Popful Mail...why? 2/?

Josh! I literately decided to make an account on here after delaying doing so for a while JUST BECAUSE of this post!

It was through this game that I really got into the MKR anime!

I was looking up OSTs that had similar composers to Sonic 06 and the name "Magic Knight Rayearth" caught my attention
