As a former journalist myself I think it’s absolutely terrifying for a journalistic outlet to proclaim that they “love” any country. You have definitionally prevented yourself from being biased toward the truth by declaring your primary allegiance to an imaginarily demarcated piece of land.
I also love America and believe in its stated values.
And I understand that this pronouncement lands very differently when it comes from an organization that has intentionally been overhauled in order to curry favor with a jingoistic proto-fascist who says his opponents hate the country.

One of the most frustrating things in the world is reading an article where the author seems unaware that the logical conclusion of what they’re saying runs counter to the positions they’re staking out within the article.
