Just watched Equinox Flower, Ozu’s first color film. I’ve seen much of his work, but not this one. I smiled throughout—what a great feeling! Favorites: the recurring red and yellow details (the bloodshed under the sun!), and the line “Happiness—isn’t it a bit sad?” A must-watch!

On the subtle beauty of translation: in an exchange with Jacques Rao last night, he complimented Toulouse’s unique choice to translate “City of Music” as “Ville des Musiques”, in plural, for UNESCO’s designation.
