Every store stealing from EBT recipients needs to be reported. It’s utterly immoral.

Also, the “store owner” replied to my Google review quite literally telling me to message Sam’s Club on Facebook…since when is that normal?! No email? No phone number? No way for a person to address this locally in any way when the manager didn’t know what to do? What about people who don’t use FB?

How much money is Sam’s Club making off of EBT recipients in fraudulent tax charges? Likely, a lot.

Sam’s Club doesn’t publicly share data about EBT spending at their locations, but if this has continued for 2+yrs and it’s absolutely illegal, then the only logical reason they wouldn’t fix it is $$$

How could I possibly trust that same manager to fix an EBT-related issue?

With extremely limited food funds & extremely limited funds overall, I can’t afford for mistakes to occur. I, nor other EBT recipients, deserve to be stolen from or have our groceries held hostage over illegal charges.

In my case, my options were either:
1. Pay the 3¢ w/ a debit card, or,
2. Cancel the transaction & switch to a register, risking funds not being transferred correctly and losing the food altogether

I didn’t have enough to cover the transaction twice, and if the manager couldn’t fix the tax issue…

There are plenty of people on Reddit who have noticed this, particularly when using Scan And Go. It happened to me while using Self-Checkout. The manager in my case had no idea why it was happening, or what to do.
