I don't know what calculations you took in for that ~$48K, but there are a couple two BIG assumptions I can't make:

1) That I'm working all 52 weeks out of the year with zero vacation or breaks, and
2) That I consistently have commission work available.

Neither of those things can be assumed.

I'm only working about 30 hours a week. My body absolutely cannot handle 40.

My income last year was only around $22K. I do have some advantages though - I live in an area with a very low cost of living, and I also have a spouse and another housemate.

I do use Clip Studio - I never knew about that feature though, that's cool. I'll have to keep closer tabs on it.

(In truth, I'm glad you responded in particular because out of all the babyfur/ABDL artists out there, you're the one I know of who seems - just from what I can see by your offerings/prices/etc. - to have the workflow that is most similar to mine.)

My commission types are slightly higher or lower in some cases, yeah. The $25 is an approximation that's based on the average, with me looking at my calendar and just totaling everything up. ("I got paid $X total for the commission work I'm doing this week, and have Y hours scheduled for it all.")

I'm not *currently* in dire straits, but I'm behind on taxes and it always feels like I am one bad month away from drowning. But looking at it like "you're making $20+ per hour" doesn't feel like that should be the case.

Am I bad with money or is it just further proof that min wage is too low?

I'm saying that because it occurs to me that I've never really seen an artist break down a "here's roughly what my rate translates to," and it... honestly feels like something that SHOULD be talked about more?

Looking at those numbers, I can't really tell where I *should* be vs. where I am.

So I did some math, and my commission rates work out to a respectable ~$25/hour (but - big caveat - that's just the pure gross dollar amount, before ANY taxes, bills, or expenses of any kind).

What I make on my SubscribeStar YCHs/stickers is slightly less (around ~$23/hr), but slightly more stable.

I'm just so tired of being told "it's the future, you can't fight the future" when it comes to AI shit. We had the same garbage shoved down our throats about NFTs, and they collapsed swiftly.

AI isn't just a bubble - it's an insult to artists and the arts. It's an insult to the earth itself.

Working at high volume, it's hard not to fall into a pattern of same-ness with most of my drawings, but I can't imagine turning to a soulless machine to do the work for me.

Put simply, my stickers and YCHs may be slop, but at least they're *artisanal* slop, made by a living being with a soul.
