Adailia Naneli Lorson’s “Tubberware Palace” speaks to me because it reminds me of growing up with my sister. In the smallest of spaces and with the most basic of playthings, we could entertain ourselves for hours. #conArtInSitu

I’ve been standing in one spot and my garden has flourished. The petals continue to dance as we experience time together. This feels like the magic of slowing down and sitting with an idea long enough for it to reveal its beauty. #conArtInSitu

I’m drawn again to the figure emitting light from its face. The light seems to radiate not just from the front of the figure, but all around. #conArtInSitu

With a departure from your roots, what is possible? What have I forgotten that is core to me? What other being(s) am I becoming? #conArtInSitu

This piece feels overwhelming, like I’m going out in a blaze of glory, but burning up violently nonetheless. #conArtInSitu

This work to me is someplace between a dream and a nightmare. What happens when your wildest dreams come true but they start to get out of control and swallow you up? #conArtInSitu

I find myself really interested in the shadows that this piece casts. On the surface things might but what lies beneath? #conArtInSitu

This work by Niki Hastings-McFall has a beautiful presence. The sound of the ocean is calming and rhythmic, but every so often roars to life, reminding me of its power. #conArtInSitu

It’s been asked of my studies, “why art?” My response is always “why not?” “Because animals prefer to be killed by beautiful things.” -Susie Silook. #conArtInSitu

Teri Rofkar tries “to weave with respect for the level of quality our ancestors had in the past. At the same time it is equally important to take ownership of the patterns as we tell new stories and bring life back to the arts.” #conArtInSitu

Haida artist Gwaai Edenshaw says, “I think the idea of a self-taught artist is a bit of a myth. We are the recipients of the knowledge collected and stored in the great works of our people that came before us.” I agree with this. I don’t think anyone is self-taught or self made. #conArtInSitu

Artists encode their work with cultural knowledge. They are some of our greatest teachers. #conArtInSitu
