I wasn’t commenting on her personality but on The Glass Cliff, I too am not a fan of her or her policies and sincerely hope she fails.

The residents associations also opposed the successful reversal of Baker Street to two ways. They are not all bad as some were anti mound but the Tory councillors are hopeless.

One of their main concerns is where will the buses go but as buses are now with ULEZ and electric busses it’s a traffic management and not the pollution issue that it was. Making Oxford Street a pedestrian environment will make a huge difference to footfall and enable retail to thrive.

I am an urbanist and a member of one of said associations and they would rather see the decline of Oxford Street than imagine it could improve their neighbourhood. They need to go visit some successful schemes in major cities to learn from them how to improve proposals and not just resist them.

To be fair I think we can safely say that the ‘formidable’ residents associations that are anti this are all strongly Tory and will be anti this regardless. The Tories answer to the accelerated decline in Oxford Street over Covid was to build a temporary mound at Marble Arch.

I agree the electorate can be sleepy but I think that this is the policy that will cut through.

I cannot see this move as being a real vote winner for the Tories, most of the people who would vote for it will be dead by the next election. It tells working people all they need to know about Tory priorities.

Thanks, this might well have been me this morning. In pain and uncomfortably standing while a whole carriage of young ones sat. TBH this is not that unusual but today they were oblivious, probably all nursing hangovers as it was midday Saturday.

Sorry to be a downer but when you get to late middle age, you will long for sleep, you will worship a good night.
