follows aren't endorsement, only to learn about other's views
Now I'm somewhat enough in the LGBT+ community to be able to have a bunch of friends and communities there, but I'm also enough of a white guy to see how someone that isn't able to fit easily with others might have some problems, especially if others start trashing what he sees as him (white guy)

I've seen a video not long ago that, from what I understood, showed how at least quite a few of white guys going into these right wing movements are caused by them not feeling welcomed anywhere else, expect these right wings groups.

Like I can understand where the feeling comes from, I'm feeling the same way, but it leads a lot of people like me to doubt themselves and to just become overtly careful, as if stepping on eggs.

Btw this is a weird post with a lot of random ideas which might come across as offensive or not really well made. Don't hesitate to ask me to expand or explain some parts :p

For me to say that someone is "horrible", I would first need to be sure that they are unable or unwilling to learn. It is about intent. And even there, I would pity them more than anything.
February 8, 2026 at 1:27 AM
I'm not saying that some actions are excusable or even the right thing, but I think where I'm trying to get is that a lot of people seem to lack the idea that most people are mostly the result of their environment.

These groups, especially their name (ex.: transphobic, nazi, left, right, ...) have a lot of baggage within them. This leads to a lot of people trying to fit people in groups, or to try to get a mental image of anyone in that group.
February 8, 2026 at 1:27 AM
Even if there is just a bit of doubt or just understanding that this person might have been exposed to stuff in the past, that maybe if they had more exposition they wouldn't be like that. The goal is to see if someone is able to separate individuals from groups.

It should probably be improved on, but this is just an idea draft. Anyways, if they answered "correctly" at the first question, I tell them to assume it's true. Now the second answer I'm searching for is anything that isn't direct pure hate.
February 8, 2026 at 1:27 AM
"Assuming you were trans and I told you that another person is transphobic, what is your first reaction?"

The first very subtle answer I'm searching for here is something related about me getting that information. It's not easy because this is a made up situation so I know this doesn't work well.

Oh and that statement does not mean that everyone with this take is good. Yes there are absolutely some that will take it far into the xenophobic side. I'm just showing it's possible to somewhat agree with the statement without being evil.
October 28, 2025 at 2:31 PM
I'm not saying that everyone that are being called a Nazi are not ones (I saw quite a few where I agree actually!), but it really does feel like a few people (not all!) have taken this label and just applied it to a lot of things they don't like or agree with
October 28, 2025 at 2:07 PM
We're not saying that's it's too complicated to deal with Nazis, we are just stating that the term has been used on the internet a bit too much and has started to dilute the meaning. While I haven't been called anything for this post for example, I've seen others get backlash for mondane things:
crazy how this statement has lead to a lot of people calling others xenophobic. Like I agree mostly with this answer, and I wouldn't say I am. Actually since the definition is "fear or hostility toward foreigners in general", a tiny bit in the fear related to culture. Let me explain (thread)

To be clear on the last sentence, the "but" is not meant to be negative. I'm already done thinking that being selfish is a bad thing. Egoism and narcissism are more accurately what we actually don't like to see in others. selfish (at least the way I define it) does not exclude helping others!

...but it can come at a cost of culture in *some* places if not somewhat regulated.

I think I'm done. I'm not re-reading this because I am on a tight schedule, but if anyone wants me to elaborate on something, let me know, always happy to talk and learn!

Meanwhile, for non-casual immigrants, their options are usually less present as it is more time-sensitive and they might not have time to learn a new language.

This is one of the main gray areas in my mind. I love the humanitarian/societal/economic aspect of having people immigrate...
October 24, 2025 at 7:50 PM
Meaning there would be a type of expectation that I integrate myself into the culture *because* i choose that place with all the choices at my disposal.
October 24, 2025 at 7:50 PM
Trying to put myself into these shoes, I would be fine immigrating to a better country for me even if they require (in whatever way) that I learn their language (language is not all of a culture, but I'm keeping it simple here).

Obviously, it is, in practice, a gray zone, a spectrum if you want. But for the sake of this, let's keep it separated in two types. The first type has time to choose where to go.
