The ferryman silently gestures for the crow girl to climb aboard and she hops on. The ferry starts to drift down the river and the two stand in silence. The crow girl looks off to the side at a number of bird-like ghosts standing on the river bank.

The crow girl breaks the silence, looking troubled: “So… This is the end? / I die, and the girl that I become, she’ll be someone new?” She looks down at her own reflection in the water.

The ferryman turns and looks down at the crow-girl. Suddenly, he grabs her hand, surprising her. He places his hand on top of hers as he becomes enshrouded in darkness.

Now, only his crumbling skull visible, he says “No. It will still be you. / Your work has only just begun.”

The crow-girl floats down the river alone and approaches a tunnel with a white light at the end. She looks down at her hand and discovers that the ferryman has given her back her pill.

The crow girl wakes up on her bed in a strange underworld, with a bright cyan sky, rippling violet rock formations, stalagmites, large bird eggs, and glowing plants. She gets up and walks down a path leading from her bed to a small stream. In the stream is a ferry with a much taller crow-person standing in it. This person (the ferryman) has a skull for a head and is wrapped in his own feathers like a cloak. A lantern hangs from the front of the ferry, emanating a warm yellow glow and emitting pale floating blob shapes that drift away into the air.

The ferryman reaches out an open palm to the crow girl, looking tall and imposing. In response, she pats herself down, looking confused, until she has a moment of realization.

The crow girl reaches into her mouth and plops her saliva-covered pill into the ferryman’s hand.

The crow girl’s friend says: “you gotta let it dissolve under your tongue / it bypasses your liver that way, goes directly to your bloodstream*”

The crow girl responds: “huh! I guess I’ll try that, thanks”

The takes a pill from her bottle (which says “_stradiol” on it), puts it under her tongue, and promptly lays down and falls to sleep on her bed. A blue-green glow emanates from the bottom of the page.
