I know that this is what the Olympic organisation wants, and so that makes me - in a very obvious way - a sop. But at the same time, why wouldn't I want that to be the way things just are?

That's not unusual at all, it's often the way, and the main reason I still watch it - for that incredible camaraderie from people around the world who happen to represent a land differentiated by a different piece, pattern and colour of fabric. For a few weeks, it's beautiful.
