His recounting of the life of this remarkable man fully justifies the sobriquet. Here's Professor Jennifer Murray giving her usual outstanding lecture, this time on Major General George G. Meade's favorite war horse, "Old Baldy." The National Museum of Civil War Medicine in Frederick, Maryland, hosted this event."

This is a pretty good discussion between Ken Burns, Sarah Botstein, Rick Atkinson, and General Joseph Dunford on leadership in the Revolutionary War. The video's description reads, "Documentary filmmaker Ken Burns, author Rick Atkinson, and retired Marine Corps Gen. Joseph Dunford discussed Revolutionary War leadership at an event held at George Washington's Mount Vernon."

This is a discussion at the 2025 Mississippi Book Festival moderated by Professor Anne Marshall. The Gettysburg National Military Park has released the schedule for their 2026 Winter Lecture Series. It looks like a terrific lineup. Saturdays and Sundays at 1:30 p.m.January 10 through March 8, 2026Gettysburg National Military Park Museum and Visitor Center Featuring some of the best Rangers, historians, and authors from across the country, this popular eight-week Winter Lecture Series will once again return to the Gettysburg National Military Park (NMP) Museum and Visitor Center in 2026! The Winter Lecture Series is held at 1:30 p.m. on weekends in the Gettysburg NMP Museum and Visitor Center from January 10 through March 8, 2026.

Here's this year's Robert Fortenbaugh Memorial Lecture, sponsored by the Civil War Institute at Gettysburg College. It featured a panel of three eminent historians, Drs. Drew Gilpin Faust, David Blight, and Stephanie McCurry. The moderators were Drs. Scott Hancock and Jim Downs, both of Gettysburg College. The theme was the Past, the Present, and the Future of the Civil War. I don't believe this theme was addressed during the presentation. According to the Gettysburg College website, the Fortenbaugh Lecture "takes as its central goal speaking to the literate general public without abandoning solid scholarly moorings." Sadly, I don't think they kept to that purpose.

Gordon: "When I began my research for Dread Danger: Cowardice and Combat in the American Civil War, my starting point was historian Bell I. Wiley. His works, dating from more than eighty years ago, offer some of the most detailed accounts of the soldier experience, not only in battle but in camp, on the march, and in prison. Wiley left very few topics untouched, and his archival research is still impressive.
