Passionate about food, hospitality and education. Makes a living doing a weird mix of all three.
L'Ingénu by Voltaire is really rather awesome when it comes to challenging accepted knowledge, authority and convention. A lovely bit of philosophy and satire rolled into one. Would be a perfect precursor to discussing Descartes’ principles of empiricism and trusted knowledge…

I love this so much. It has also reminded me that Leeds Armoury is genuinely awesome and I should return soon. Assignment completed. Or something.

Is Fiasco actually in a pie base and the lid is about to be placed on? Is Fiasco in fact in Springfield?

Fascinating and very different perspective on polling and its impact in the USA. Also, is @alastaircampbell2.bsky.social really that much taller than Nate and Rory or is he standing on something?

A great sandwich can be a perfect expression of one’s individuality and personality as well as being indelibly memorable: just like great literature. However, more people understand a great sandwich than great literature.

As a Brit it’s really weird. Here in the UK it’s quite normal to walk to the shops from home or to park in one car-park and walk to multiple shops. Try parking outside one store and walking to another in many parts of US. You can’t. You have to drive or jaywalk. Unhealthy and weirdly inefficient!

Not simple. If it’s a nice fatty marbled ribeye then you need to render the fat more, whereas if it’s a very lean cut then blue can be lovely. Depends on ageing, meat quality, level of marbling, thickness of cut. This is why I don’t order steak when out. Too long to explain how I’d like it cooked!!

If it’s as grotty where you are as it is here, I’d suggest chicken and pearl barley broth with loads of veggies in it. Comforting, warming and full of goodness to ward off the inevitable influx of weather-change-related pestilence.

This is exactly what I do - I have an A5 disc notebook and then print my own diary pages and to-do lists in the format that I like and use the Atoma paper puncher to make them fit. Sounds absurd but it’s perfect for me!!! This is the one I have which is rather lovely: cultpens.com/products/ato...

To clarify I’ve just realised your in/out question may be about Scottish devolution, whereas my mind immediately went to Brexit!!

I suspect your challenge here is on the in/out question. Most knowledgeable commentators with an ounce of integrity have a firm opinion on the matter. And it ain’t out.

Nice. I recently decided to take a brief break from the heavier stuff and re-read the first Discworld book on my kindle. And then promptly read everything else Terry Pratchett had written whilst the physical piles looked on disapprovingly.

I prefer to scatter my ‘to read next’ piles around the house so they won’t get jealous of each other and so I don’t have to confront the enormity of the massed super-pile in one go.
