Even metal detectors are a worthless endeavor. Let me leave my keys in my pocket.

The only worthwhile changes brought on by the patriot act are an armed marshal on every flight and cockpit doors that lock.

Yes, because it wouldn't have actually threatened right wing control of SCOTUS.
February 4, 2026 at 5:30 AM
I don't believe in the hypothetical results of votes that were never held. Republican were weak on this issue, it would not have taken much to turn one. Instead he put the issue in his pocket to campaign on for his second term.

He wouldn't fight Congress over it, but he was happy to fight the EPA over it.

Biden administration waives federal laws to allow border wall construction in Texas
The announcement follows pressure from top Democratic officials to address the overwhelming influx of migrants in the past year.

You remember, the thing that every major news outlet spent months begging Biden to do.
February 4, 2026 at 4:13 AM
Pack the Supreme Court, even with a Congress dominated by the Right that would have worked. Anti-abortion legislation is unpopular even in red states, even four more center-right judges would have taken the opportunity to reverse that particular decision.
February 4, 2026 at 4:12 AM
Yeah, and it fucked over every Democrat in the midterm, because everybody had to follow the leader in distancing themselves from all the shit they spent years talking.

I imagine Biden did it in the name of pluralism. Reaching a hand across the aisle to lock kids in cages.

So Harris promised to give us more of the same, more funding for the gestapo, more concentration camps.

I just don't blame people for refusing to vote for that.
February 4, 2026 at 2:22 AM
Specifically he took no action to protect abortion and he pivoted hard to the right on immigration.

He spent 4 years calling the wall a ridiculous boondoggle and calling the Rights immigration rhetoric racist drivle. He was right, but when he took office he built the wall and increased ICE funding
February 4, 2026 at 2:20 AM
So I voted for Biden and I voted for Harris, but I wasn't happy with the choice and I don't resent people who decided to stay home rather than vote for Harris.

This is especially true given that Biden didn't deliver on the issues I cared about . . .

I think Bush I was elected primarily to clean up the CIA in the wake of Iran-Contra with Clinton being the first President Boomers elected with a view towards the future. Clinton was also the first President who was himself a Boomer.
January 31, 2026 at 2:11 PM
If you ignore the big stretches of his Presidency when his approval was under %40. Reagan's highest approval ratings only happened after he was out of office for decades. He's a lot like G.W. Bush that way.
January 31, 2026 at 10:10 AM
Boomers were the one age demographic that didn't overwhelmingly vote for Reagan.
January 31, 2026 at 10:03 AM
I mean, they're right, it is a shibboleth used to exert influence over new people.

Their mistake is in assuming that in-group rituals serve no purpose beyond petty exclusion.

These rituals have always been tools of survival amongst the oppressed.
January 31, 2026 at 6:09 AM
Trump is our Reagan. He was a Democrat of convenience who went to Hollywood, took a hard right turn to get into politics and won based on dog whistles and celebrity name recognition. The timing even lines up, the Boomers got Reagan in their 30s and 40s too.
January 31, 2026 at 5:55 AM
I can give you more specific reasons, and even a plan to mitigate those factors, if you like. But it won't matter as much as you think. The Boomers are an aberration because the generation is just SO DAMN BIG. The following generations don't warp politics the same way.

The bit the stuck out to me was that they're doing Stormlight Archives as a show. I hope they're animating it, because the Stormlight Archives is a secret anime. A lot of the visuals wouldn't work right in live-action.
January 29, 2026 at 3:08 PM
It's an uninspired hero shooter that's probably launching straight into failure because the genre is locked up by Marvel Rivals right now.

Chuds are excited about the failure because the last time this happened(Concord), was claimed by them as a victory because it had a black person in it.
January 27, 2026 at 10:12 PM
but then a second wave of anime in the Saturday morning cartoons like Cardcaptor Sakura and One Piece came because that first wave was successful and the adaptations were still cheap. They weren't brought over for anime fans.
January 27, 2026 at 7:35 PM
I think this already happened, and then the groundhog went back in his hole. Putting aside DBZ, the first big breakout animes during my lifetime were Pokemon and Digimon, which came a merchandising tie-ins . . .

Looking into the writer, she's a columnist for the Daily Mail, runs a TERF podcast and wrote a book called "The Case Against the Sexual Revolution." She's a professional right-wing grifter, she'll blow whatever whistle her intended audience can hear. Reality isn't her concern.
January 27, 2026 at 4:43 AM
The real number is 2.2/10, so better than you hoped.
January 23, 2026 at 12:52 AM
Oh, so you understand that the thing that makes them "specialists in violence" is the gun and body armor, both of which would presumably be confiscated if the DHS were abolished.

There is no essential quality that makes them dangerous as individuals without state backing.
January 22, 2026 at 6:43 AM
"Specialists in violence" is an unnecessarily sinister way to refer to people with no real qualifications who were rushed through a two week course in how to service firearms.

These aren't Seal Team 6, they're two bit thugs. Those show up without 2 week training courses all the time.

I don't think you really can fundamentally misunderstand He-Man. It's a show created by merchandisers trying to sell overstocked toys. Wrapping the show in a cape of coke-fueled consumerism is the right vibe. This property was never authentic and was only ever meaningful by accident.
