Even when federal admins have tried to help Alaska's environmentally-threatened communities, bureaucracy and lack of understanding have put up a TON of roadblocks to actually helping.

Alaskans know some ways to avoid those, though, if funders will listen.

There are a variety of climate-driven environmental threats to Alaska's rural communities, and local communities do not have the capacity to address them alone. The longer we wait for mitigation funding, the more displacement happens and the more rural, Indigenous communities are fragmented.

ANTHC has identified the need for at least $80M annually to support Alaska's environmentally threatened communities to prepare BEFORE disaster strikes; we would be saving $6 for every $1 spent and critically we would be keeping communities whole.

Starting to see effect of tsunami on NOAA's water level observation for Sand Point. KMXT reported a 6-in tsunami confirmed by USCG, possibly it's based on this: tidesandcurrents.noaa.gov/waterlevels....

Revised back to start around 1:30 in Sand Point - should be seeing reports soon, hoping it's small as many communities have critical infrastructure that would be affected even by a moderate tsunami. Here's a weather camera at 1:26 PM on the runway at Sand Point.

Legislative Affairs did a great job with the stories for Black History Month in this year's calendar - this was a favorite.

Checked out @pixelfed.ie and it's pretty cool!! You can follow AK folks who are on Mastodon there, like @anchistorian.bsky.social (pictured here as an example)

Would be amazing if more #AlaskaSky people getting off Insta went there :)

Even with the upfront cost of building a coop and the fanciest feed, they come out cheaper in terms of materials than cage free eggs can be here RN (~$13 a dozen).
