Agreed; perhaps its also that the terms of “individualism” shift in differing economic/cultural/mediated contexts (and also gets wedded in a US context to a kind of “exceptionalism” and “isolationism”)

Experienced this just this week when I entered my classroom in the morning , flipped the lights on, and had a genuine jump scare moment seeing a few folks already sitting at the back of the room, waiting.
